Just home from a brief trip to Washington DC, I received my February issue of American Hunter and noted with satisfaction another article by a forum member on a hunting revolver, the BFR in .500 JRH. The BFR is not my kind of revolver - too darn ugly - but the .500 JRH sounds interesting. I hope the article is a sign that handgun hunting is becoming more mainstream even in major magazines such as American Hunter. Thanks, Whitworth!

I enjoyed the article too, he does a good job. Having worked with Whitworth and that very same revolver, I can add that it is scary, scary accurate.

yeah, i really enjoyed the article. it was great, a few more like it and perhaps more and more will join the ranks of handgun hunters and with more numbers means evermore choices.

Mike has a little trouble warming up to single actions!

Thank you for the kind words!

That’s ok, well bring Mike to the “dark side" eventually. LOL

Having read articles of your before, I can’t weight to see this one.

I thought the "dark side" was single shots and specialty pistols? And that's hardly Whitworth's side...
\:D

But seriously, I have only one single action - a Ned Buntline Commemorative .45 Colt New Frontier SAA - but quite a few double actions. Should I venture into more single actions I would, knowing me, go for the looks...and that would be a FA of some kind...which, to Whitworth, should be even more heretical...

Not heretical at all -- just out of my price range -- you know, champagne tastes and a beer budget. Sad but true......
I would have ten of each if I could (okay, maybe five!).

I don't know, this looks pretty good to me -- even for a single action (that was for you, Mike!).

Well, if you like single actions it is quite nice though somewhat clumsy....

Whit and I are good friends. He really is a great shot so you can take that to the bank. We go head to head a lot and laugh a lot on my range. When he writes up anything you better believe that he has done it. No bull, no bluff, no computer shooting, just honest evaluations.
What all of you need to know is that we NEVER shoot less then 50 yards. Whit will shoot better groups at 100 yards then shown on the other rags at 25 yards. That is consistent, not a one time fluke.
Other writers keep shortening distance for groups but you can depend on Whitworth.

Great article Whitworth! Sounds like a great round. How well does it perform with lesser bone rattling rounds?

Great article. I've read some of his work in Boar Hunter also.

Thank you gentlemen!

With the loads with a lighter bullet, the kick isn't so bad at all. In fact, Buffalo Bore also made a load that pushes a 440 at 950 and it is really comfortable. This thing is scary accurate!

cfish2 I am not a great pistol shot, but have had the opportunity to play with whits a little and it made me feel like super shooter. For me I liked the 440s at 950,and they were extremely accurate, but those at 1350+ they are just as accurate but not as much fun.

It is definately a hammer. The 440 flat point hard cast a 950 FPS made this exit in the rib cage of a 6X7 Bull Elk

The fit and finnish of the custom shop BFR's is very good. The only change that I would make to them is an all steel front sight and a Bisley grip frame
