Quick post again......sorry guys! Got this one this morning from the same tripod as the first one. Shot was 139yrds with the 6.5JDJ, 120grn ballistic tip @ 2415fps. He followed a doe in front of the gun, "I had to shoot him"? Anyway..........he droped at the shot, no tracking
"Cisco" will be hunting with me tomorrow, hope I can put him on one. Looks like I need to put him in this stand HUH?
OK, OK..........Cisco will be in the hot spot in the morning! Wish him luck!!!!

Best,

Nice buck Randy! Is that a six or a eight pointer? A nice eight, but a hell of a six, if that's what it is. How did the BT's perform? And how do you like the 6.5 JDJ? I haven't owned that caliber and I'am thinking of getting it or a .257 JDJ. I would appreciate any comments.

Thanks and congrats,

Kennon

Rugernut, The 6.5 caliber is the best whitetail deer cartridge. It doesn't matter if it is the 6.5JDJ or variants, 260 Rem, 6.5-284, or 264WM. They just simply kill w/o fanfare. The 25 caliber I think would be nice(I have a25-06Encore), it could be loaded with light bullets for varmints and then loaded up for Antelope and Deer. Still the 6.5 calibers are the best. Enuf said.

sure is! i just hope i have us some good deer "spots" lined up plenty of deer around here, so that itself won't be a problem. gettin permission in the right spots is a lil more tricky. there are other hunters that hunt where i killed my deer the past 2 seasons, so i'm unsure of a spot at the moment. we still got time though as long as i'm sure your comin....i can work on it.

sorry to steal the thread here guys

when i bought my 15" 7-08, i was also thinkin along the lines of a 260rem. both are great imo. the 7-08 was just easier to acquire in a factory barrel.

JDJHNTR, nice buck and excellent shot.

Does the Ballistic Tip cause a lot of damage to the meat?

Magman, Thanks, I'll problably go with the 6.5JDJ. I had a 270JDJ and liked it, very accurate. Guess I'll have to see what all the fuss is about these 6.5's. The Hornady 95gr. V-Max's ought to be the ticket on "yotes" too. BTW, what kind of velocities are you getting from your .25-06 in your Encore?
Thanks for your info,

Rugernut

Rugernut, I have a 7mm JDJ also, just like the 6.5 better. I haven't shot the 25-06 yet. Too many projects(currently working with a 338WM Encore barrel). Hopefully this summer I can wring it out a little. I think with 87 gr bullets, 3000 fps will be realistic. We'll see.

KYODE, You are right the 7mm-08 is easier to come by. The 260 was only cataloged for 1 or 2 years at most. It can be gotten from FRO or the custom guys. I think most 260 owners ain't giving them up. Gee I wonder why??

Howdy BT,

We were in the stands before daylight. Directly in front of me 1/4 of a mile away was a 2 man shooting house. It was 9:29am before I could see it because of the fog.

My new friend saw 3 deer and I saw about a dozen bobcats and 3 deer and one French deer.

Was a wonderful day!!

I know a few guys from the Masonic Lodge there, but no Manning's. I probably know alot of folks they know. I'll ask the next time I see some of the Bay Springs or Belmont bunch.

Greetings Cisco,

A dozen bobcats?? Are they legal to take in MS? I think this is the first time I have ever heard someone say they saw such a great number of bobcats!!

Several years ago, I watched 48 turkeys cross a CRP field, followed by a doe. Shot her with the Encore 7-08, then not five minutes later, a bobcat came along on the same path. Shot him too!

All of this in about 20 minutes.

Thanks fer the French lesson!

They are legal all year as far as I know. I'm certain there was no season on the ones I've shot in the backyard.

Really not sure how many I saw. Had to have been 5 or 6 different ones. MOST I've ever seen in one spot. Usually takes me several years to see that many.
