Definatly addicted to the reloading at this point. looking to reload some 9mm. First Im seeing Full metal jacket flat base and hollow base. Whats the difference and does it matter? Second does anyone have a source for cheap 9 fmj bullets?

Mike, if you are using these reloads just for practice, any fmj or coated bullet will do. I use delta precision coated bullets in my limited gun for practice and competition. Some of the shooters that I know still like the uncoated lead bullets. They are a lot cheaper, but can be a mess in barrels. If you are burning through a couple thousand rounds a month, it is a consideration. But be aware, if you choose uncoated lead, depending on what handgun you are running them through, you may have to replace the factory barrel with a competition barrel. Glocks especially.

Delta Precision
Black Bullets
Montana Gold
Berry
MagTech
.....they all sell bullets in bulk. Some of them require a purchase of at least 1000-2000 at a time. Best of luck

My Glock 17 likes a 124g bullet and Bubba brings up a good point about not using lead in a Glock. The Glock has hexagonal rifling (I think that is what they call it) and it is too aggressive for use with non-jacketed bullets. I'm not sure what other pistols use this type of rifling but you should be able to look at the manual to determine if you need to use jacketed bullets or if lead will be ok. I recommend keeping an eye on Midway's website for blemished bullets, they are usually substantially cheaper; I know that's where I picked up my last batch of 124g HP bullets. Remember to use .355"diameter bullets if you are shooting jacketed bullets unless you slug the barrel and it is non-spec.

The Glock's rifling is called polygonal. The admonition against lead bullets is due to the pressure spike caused by lead accumulation. This was the reason given at a Glock Armorer's course that I attended. Be that as it may, I have found that Glock barrels lead quickly and badly. A Lone Wolf or other such barrel allows lead bullet use albeit it still voids Glock's warranty. I use a 9mm conversion barrel in my G22 .40. It is accurate and does not lead.

Mike,

Try the plated bullets from Rainier, Berrys, etc.. I've shot literally 10s of thousands through my Glocks without issue. In fact, with time and use they shoot better.

Thanks for the info. Ill go with the Rainier LeadSafe 124 grn. It says to use reloading data for lead bullets and use a slight taper crimp. I have a factory crimp die? That wont do the job I guess? Man I have so Many questions...

Mike,

The factory crimp die will work just fine. Adjust it per instructions. If you don't have the instructions you can obtain them from the manufacturer's web site.
