Today I had the time to run out to Mac's Gunworks and shoot his new creation.
Put 25 rounds through it, from the prone position, with my typical one hand hold.
Lawton action, McRee stock, McGowen barrel, Lawton picatinny rail, Mac brake, Cerakote camo, Vortex Razor HD 5-20 Scope, Vortex Rings. All the work was done by Chuck McIntosh. The cartridge is one of Dave Viers. Take a 408 Chey-Tac and partially neck it down to .375 and make a false shoulder, fireform it and you have a 375 Snipe-Tac. Jamison brass, 150 grains of H-50BMG, and a 370 grain Rocky Mountain bullet. What a cool combination.

223 Rem, 338 AX (338 Lapua Improved), 375 Snipe-Tac, 243 Winchester

Honestly, I do not know the actual weight.
It might be a little light for antelope.

I guess I'll have to build a 460 Weatherby before I start chasing speed goats then.

I wonder if the .375 Snipe-Tac would fit a P-17 action? I happen to have one right now that is not being used.

Not sure how big it is, but very few actions are set-up for the chey-tac action.
http://www.lawtonmachine.com/actions_8000.html
If that action of your was once a rifle or designated as a rifle action, you can't use it for a handgun action.
Unless, you are thinking of building a rifle in the Snipe-Tac.

Ernie,

Is the Lawton action specifically made for handguns? XP actions are getting fewer and fewer. Also, the stroke length of the bolt in the XP would be an issue for those long cartridges. It was my understanding that a rifle action could not be used to make a handgun ( hand rifle )? Am I mistaken? I would like to build a few beasts like you have. Where do you obtain the Lawton actions, McRee stocks, etc.?

He has done a lot of 375 Chey-Tac's, but this may be the first 375 Snipe-Tac (375 Chey-Tac Improved) he has built.
He will be able to tell you what works and doesn't work.

Talk about a Long-Range striker in a rifle set-up WOW!
somewhere around 3100-3200 fps with the 370 grain Rocky Mountain bullet that has a BC in the .980's

The Lawton is not built specifically for handguns.
You can buy a number of actions, "non-designated" which means you can use them for a handgun if you choose.
Most custom actions can be purchased this way. I have BAT action that was purchased that way as well.

McRee stocks:
http://www.mcreesprecision.net/pistol_stocks.htm
Mac's Gunworks is the sole dealer for the handgun stocks.

Mike,
Good question.
This specialty handgun is the result of a pooling of a number of resources to try something that has never been done before.
So, my out-of-pocket expense has been a whole lot less than normal.
There is an article forthcoming on this giant.
The optics are borrowed-not mine.

Hey Ernie ,you reckon if we get you off the coast of Libya a few miles you can lob a few of them at targets? It would be cheaper than a tomahawk, but probably as effective.HAHAHA Nice piece, don't aim it to the east and I'll feel a whole lot safer.

Well, I don't do two legged targets.
Never have either FWIW.
In all seriousness, if I did that kind of work, I would use a rifle. Chambering(s) would be dependent on the task(s) at hand and what I was allowed to use or choose from. And, I really do appreciate those who have and who currently do serve.
The Chey-Tac is a great sniper cartridge.

On a lighter note. I won't point it anywhere without a safe backstop. I think you are pretty safe in NC.

I like long range shooting & this seems like an awesome rifle round. Will call Chuck to see if it will fit the P-17 action.

I would like to get my brother interested in this round. He is trained as a sniper in the navy & he is retiring soon. His wife is buying him a long range rifle in the .338 Lapua as a retirement gift. I think the .375 Snipe-Tac would blow the Lapua out of the water.

Your brother a "SEAL?"
Chuck has a steel range at his shop.
Steel every hundred yards to 1200 yards.
And I am pretty sure there will be steel at 1500 and 1 mile very soon.

I was mistaken on Rocky Mtn bullet's BC--It is listed as .943
Even if it is less than that, it is still awesome

The need part I will agree with, but Erik and I won these two MOA's in last years match.
Since you have more stars, you should come out to Rich's match and that way you would easily win a new MOA

Wow. What an awesome rig.

I can't believe no one has asked about the recoil yet.

How bad is it??

A 12 inch 454 encore was almost unpleasant IMO.
