This is to any of our members who hunt small game with a 22 handgun. What brand of ammo do you use and is it a hollow point or a solid bullet? Survey says.......

Mike, I have hunted squirrels all my life with a .22, both rifle and handgun. As long as head shots are taken, it doesn't matter what bullet. As a kid growing up, my dad would not let me shoot a squirrel anyplace but the head. And I still do today.
If body shots are to be taken, stay away from hollow-points. All the best--Mark Hampton

For slightly tougher critters like Raccoons and Groundhogs I have had really good luck with the CCI 32g Segmented Hollow Points. They also group a little better than CCI stingers.

I've been using Federal and Remington 550 count box's that you get at walmart, for years. They are both hollow points, but are not high enough velocity from handguns to do excessive damage on body shots. Can't even attempt to tell you how many squirrels I've killed with them. The federal's shoot best out of my T/C and MKII and the Remington's shoot best in my revolvers.
It takes 43 muscles to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger squeeze.

The CCI minimags in my Ruger super single six work best for me. Have had good luck with the winchester super X ammo as well. Best advice is,find the most accurate in your gun.

Remington Sub-Sonics are excellent for small game. Lots of squirrels, grouse, rabbits and a couple porcupines I introduced them to would agree. They are accurate in my revolvers and single shot handguns.

In my rifles for squirrel its cci or rem. CB caps , very quiet and with head shots they kill well . In pistol it is what ever shoots the best. I use a lot of cci blazer .22 ,as it shoots good in most everthing.

I've been using Federal and Remington 550 count box's that you get at walmart, for years. I can’t count how many rounds I have ran threw my MKII or how many game animals I have taken with those rounds. Squirrels, rabbits, snakes, rates, bunnys, turtles (oh my all the turtles,) skunks, racoons... I wish I had skinned a few of those critters out...

I shoot what ever shots best in my gun. (most of my 22 like the Win/Fed bulk bullets) IMO it's more important to hit where I want, than bullet performance.

I started using Velociters about 7 years ago and never looked back. Noticible difference on Coons, Bobcats, Rabbits, and Squirrls. Be careful though, because of the added bullet weight they will ricochet very easily.

Shooting Winchester Super-X lead round nose out of a Colt Woodsman, my go-to small game gun - no high-vel rounds out of the old classic. Squirrels and rabbits hate 'em.
Out of the other 22's, I usually use the bulk JHP ammo from Remington.

I've been shooting C.C.I.solids,Winchester solids-both high velocity 1250 f.p.s. but treat them using my SGB tool/die.I've always used lung shots on squirrels figuring its giving me great practice for deer hunting. These treated bullets kill squirrels almost as fast as hitting them with hollowpoints shot from a rifle.I shoot them from a Browning Buckmark 5 1/2"barrel and a Contender 10" match barrel.

I always found that CCI Standard Velocity is great for accuracy.
