Have had their SW lock up due to internal lock failure.
Been seeing alot of this on the Net about how the new
SW guns are not 100% reliable especially with heavy loads.
Many guys buying only used guns built when these locks were
not installed by factory. Some even take the locks off.
The heavy recoil from magnum cartridges can suddenly jar
the IL into the lock position.

Since most of you guys here use those exact hard magnum guns that are known for this mishap, I was wondering, is any of this true or just NET BS??

Would like to hear your guys opinion on this.
Hope this hasnt been discussed here much, I did
a search and found nothing on this topic. Dont
want to sound redundent.

A little red locktite in just the right place will give you peace of mind.

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

There has been a few here & there but I don’t personally know anyone who had a problem with the “lock”. If I had to guess I’d say probably 99.999% of the people with the “locked” Smiths haven’t had a problem.

Myself, I wouldn’t use red locktite but I would purchase the plug for $25.00. Here’s a picture of what the “plug” looks like on a 500 Smith. If you go that route purchase two (2) cotter pins for that plug.

Thanks for the response s4s4, and 7ps.

I guess nobody has ever had a problem here with this.

Sounds good to go

Take care

I have a M-357PD in 41 mag and the lock inadvertanly locked the revolver when shooting double action. I put blue lock tite on the lock itself and this work for a while before the gun locked up again. I have since removed the lock portion from the frame and this cured the problem
