Hi, Does anyone have any experience with a 15" Encore barrel in 25-06? Just curious about loads, recoil and effectiveness on deer sized game.
Thanks.
Tom

I don't have a 25-06, but can tell you that you can expect in the neighborhood of 250 Savage or 257 Roberts rifle numbers with the shorter pistol barrel and those chamberings have taken loads of whitetails in this country. Recoil shouldn't be a problem in an Encore, but you can brake it if you find it uncomfortable, but add the brake to, rather than incorporate it into, the 15" length.

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

You will do well with the 25-06. I have one but I don’t have shot it at all. If you are a reloader I would recommend looking at the 100. I do have a 257 Rob AI and it is quite the hammer on game.

From what I can find in my research you should be looking at around 2900-3000fps with a 100gr bullet.

Everyone is different, but .25-06 recoil is not bad at all IMO. I have not spent much time working up loads with mine yet. Factory ammo gave decent groups but I'm sure the barrel can do better with the right load. So far I have only tried Reloader 19 with 100 gr Nosler BTs and was not impressed with that combo. I'm going to try Varget behind the BTs next.

The 25-06 encore is a great caliber, light recoil and very good groups at 100 yds. Mine likes the 100 gr. nosler BT (federal factory loads are the best I have found).TCTex is right on the vel. it does 2900-3000 fps with 100 gr. loads (factory loads are in the 2900 range but I have got handloads to 3000+). As for use on game it works just as good as a rifle in 25-06 (whitetails are DRT if you hit them right).Get one you'll like it.
