Whitworth, do you think that one will be as durable and tough as a regular tube type ultradot?

My previous post: "Mr. Bob Baker (Freedom Arms) did the same thing for the JPoint a few years back; offered an exceptionally clean base to go on the FA 83 for the JPoint; no longer available though." KRal,
I bought two for my 83s earlier this year.
The FA website still advertises it. I stand corrected, wtroper is correct. My mind slipped and I was actually referring to the JPoint mount for the Ruger single action revolvers; those were discontinued. My apologies.

I am sure this question has been awnsered in the past, has anybdoy made a flush mounting for the S&W revolvers?
Or has anybody modified a weigand base to be shorter? For this style of red dot

Whitworth, do you think that one will be as durable and tough as a regular tube type ultradot? You know, I don't have a clue. The owner of Ultradot knows that I would be putting it on something with obscene recoil and he didn't hesitate to send it out. I think the tube type sights by design are tougher, but I think the light weight will help with the durability.

I'm thinking of putting a dot on the BFR 45-70 instead of the fixed 4 power leuopold thats on it right now. Hmm, delta point looks like it might work.

The Ultradot L/T I just got runs $269.00 and features a 2 moa dot. I need to put it through its paces to see what it can take, but I am impressed with it so far! Standby for a report.

What are you mounting it on? My BFR in .500 JRH. It should give us a good idea as to what it can take.

I like the smaller dots size. More precise when you start going beyond 50 yards.

Hunting season is just around the corner ya know I don't think I will be using it this year. I am on an open-sight kick right now and have been using my .45 Colt Bisley and my .500 Maximum. I plan on hunting with both this year, but maybe I'll take the .500 JRH for a spin as well -- just depends on the number of opportunities I am presented with.

Ya, I'm with you on that. I went thru that last 2 years during deer season. I whacked a few does with revolvers with open sights. I posted one of them I popped with the 480 Raging bull. I have never mounted a sope on my RSBH 44mag during the 17 years I have owned it. And other then my6.5JDJ contender, it has taken more game then anything else I own. From beaver to ground hogs to prairie dogs and chickens, its one of my favorites for spending a day in the woods with.

I don't think I will ever put a scope on one. For me, it is still a game of getting as close as possible -- that is half the appeal to me. I found that red dots are good particularly if one's vision isn't so good. I'm just having too much fun with the iron sights right now!

Ya, I know what you mean. I am looking forward to getting my custom gun that is being built for me. I am looking forward to taking a buffalo with it with open sights. I also want to take a moose with the BFR 45-70 with open sights.

Seasons44,
Rod modified a weigand base for one of my ruger BHs (shortened it) for the purpose of mounting a Burris Fastfire on it and making it fit into a FA holster designed for their M83 with a reflex sight. Turned out good.
It's more important where you hit 'em, than what you hit 'em with.

Whit,
I am at the office now. When I get home this afternoon, I will attempt to photograph it. However, I am the world's worst photographer. The 5 1-2" BH fit into the FA holster perfectly. However, I sent the holster to Rod so that he would have it when he was cutting back the base.
It's more important where you hit 'em, than what you hit 'em with.

I have posted a few photos of the modified mount on the bragging board. Will try to attach a couple here. Oops. Better go refresh my memory on attaching photos.
Sorry, in my bumbling with the photos I started a new thread. It is in the hunting section. Maybe Gregg will move it back down here where it belongs.
BTW, Rod is building a 475 for me. I have asked him to make both a "short" mount for a reflex and a regular one for a scope.

Whitworth, what are the mount options on the UD l/t? Does it have a base like a JPoint/Trijicon or is it a weaver style only? I really like to 2MOA dot option.
It takes 43 muscles to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger squeeze.
