well not real long range but a couple of hammers, nothing really special to look at but both shoot straight and hit hard. 300 Win Mag SS Cerakote 458 Win Mag, graphite black Cerakote.

Hey Rod, how much more does the Lott kick over the 458 win mag? Gregg, I love those micro 1911's. I carry one all the time.

Well the only lott I've built so far was on the heavy taper Bergara rifle barrel but it still kicked quite a bit harder than the Winchester on the pistol taper barrel. I have another pistol barrel I'll be rechambering in the near future and it will be in the Lott so I'll be able to compare better. The heavier lott would push back way harder than the win but the win has alot more muzzle rise and especially if you relax your grip.

I still feel that this S&W M-27 is one of the finest looking handguns I own. As I said in the original post, it has it all: deep blue, functional grips and plenty of history....

Hank, have you taken critters with the old army and what kind of performance are you getting out of it? Before I started building my own I thought about having them build one for me now I was thinking of getting one and doing my own conversion on it.

Before I started building my own I thought about having them build one for me now I was thinking of getting one and doing my own conversion on it. I have taken several whitetails with it. I get about 1250 Fps with 250 gr bullet and 50 gr Triple 7 fff. Mount Baldy was making bullets, but as I understand he no longer does. It takes special bullets as the bore is .488 to match .50 cal muzzle loader balls. Of course you could do one with a .500 or .510 bore. if you don't plan on also shooting balls. I have found that if the bullets have lube on the side, that is not just in the grooves, recoil will cause the bullets to move forward since they are not crimped. I alway wipe the sides of my bullet as dry as I can get them and use a wonder wad behind the bullet for some extra lub.

Very cool. I like the idea of a large caliber cap and ball gun. Rod, we may need to do some talking here in the not to distant future!

I've done nothing to it. It is my most accurate revolver. I am planning on performing some grip frame surgery to it (Jack Huntington's grip extension and some custom grips), and that is that. It's a great revolver!

Ernie the 284 and wildcats off that cartridge have always been amazing.Never understood why 284 didn't make it.What is the leopard caliber off of?
Now I need Whits Uberti, Eds 475, Zaco419s model 97, Schunters bisquero, jwps 475, cfishs bishunter,Rio hondos ROA, JFJs 27 and Ernies 284 or duplicates just like them. I knew this thread was going to be expensive for somebody. Almost hated to look.

Here is one that I thought was pretty nice looking but I ended up taking it back apart because it was too nasty on the recoil end to be safe. It had a factory barrel I turned the safety warning off of making it even lighter than original and I put the polished aluminum grip frame on it. This was more of an experiment in how light you could go with a single action. It was chambered in 454 and full house loads were flat out scary as the gun only weighed 2 lbs 5 oz's and with the short plow handle it would try to roll right out of my hand.

I think "scary" would be the right word for that one Rod. Whit would probably like one in each hand shooting "gunfighter" at them piggies.

Dan Your probably right, I thought I was a recoil junky until I started reading his post. My wrist are getting tired which is one reason I'm shooting my 454 more than my other bigger calibers now, but this 454 weighs a little more.
