I have been from the top to the bottom on this one. The gun shoots everything well. I finally settled on 300gr XTPs at just over 1100fps. Shoots beyond great and I have never seen the need for more power on anything up to elk. After reading in Whitworths book last night his findings with penetration mirrored mine. My final laod with the 335gr CPB bullets ended up at 1100fps as well. Years ago I talked to Veral Smith about this gun and he gave me enough info to see 1300fps with the 335grs from the 4 5/8" barrel. I ended up backing down to 1100fps and liked that bullet ever since. I'm running the 250gr XTP at 1350 from my 5.5 and that will handle everything in North America short of grizz and moose.

I use unique powder and 300 grain cast Magnus bullets to around 1000 fps. Blue dot powder works well too. With an open sighted revolver, it does all I need. If I need more I go 454 or a TC pistol. I came to know about the 45 colt about 3 years ago. If I had used it first I probably would have any 44's. Honestly I like and use both. MK.

Rod, too.
Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

Nope not at all and super accurate. I went to it to give my wrists a break from the heavy hitters and now it's one of my favorite guns.

255gr WFN and Unique. gives me 1050fps out of my 5.5 " and will handle anything I'll see.

I'm pushing a 260 NP with 17.0 grains of 2400. Very accurate in my M97.
It takes 43 muscles to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger squeeze.

255-270gr projectiles over 8.5 grs of 231 for 900fps or 13 grs of HS-6 for 1075-1100 and 18.5-20 grs of 2400 pushes up to 1150-1300fps. When I feel the need to go heavy I use a 350 gr Penn bullet over 22 grs of H-110 for 1200fps. I maybe lucky but all loads are hunting accurate with a few doing less than a inch at 50 yards.

I have a S&W M13 .45 Colt Mountain Gun. The factory advises against +P loads. Has anyone tried SAA level loads for deer hunting?

I have one of the Ruger Blackhawk Hunters w/8" barrel in 45lc. I shoot the 255grn XTP's with H110 at 1310fps. It shoots great and is a great deer round. Never shot anything past 50yd with this load. I also load a 300grn WFN gas checked bullet with H110 at 1205 fps. I hope to try it on some hogs this fall. It is shooting 3" at 50 yds right now and will work on this. Just getting used to the scope on it now. Can't wait to carry this hammer during deer season on my new hunting property. I have a lot of places along fence lines I can put my pop up hunting blinds and have 50yd or less shots. Mike

Plinking load is 23 grains H110 with any 300 grain jacketed bullet. Speer, Sierra do well. Better is a 340 grain cast bullet with 24-25 grains H110. I'm going to try 21.5 grains N110 with a 340 grain bullet. That is the same load that I use in my 475 Linebaugh with a 420 grain bullet.
