I have a 15" SS 22-250 barrel that, I what to trade or sell. I am looking at a 7mm-08 or a 308. I want something for deer and hogs. I have a 7-30 waters in Contender. how much more punch does the 7mm-08 have over the 7-30? I have die and everything for the 7mm-08, and would need to get everything for the 308. What do you think?

The 7-08 will do you just fine in a 15" barrel. Heck, the Waters is all I need for as far as I care to shoot, about 200 yards. The 7-08 will double that if you can hit what yer aimin at way out there ;-)

With the 7-08 you also bring bigger game into the picture; elk, moose, caribou, etc.

Rod, too.

s4s4u,

I am leaning to the 7mm08 ( I have bullets, brass, powder, and die). I had one in a rifle when it first came out. What bullet weight do you like for bigger game?

In the Waters I like the 120 Nosler for deer, but in the 7-08 I'd go with the 140 for everything. I use them in a 284 XP, which I download to 7-08ish cause it doesn't have a brake and anything heavier is a real handful.

I have used the 140grn with great results on whitetail out to 300. I'm sure it would do the job much further, but my optics arn't up to the task. I think they would work great on bigger animals as well. If you feel the need for more, I have seen factory 7mm08 ammo as heavy as 169grns.
