I like the look of the full rail and tsob scope mounts from ssk industries. I have the itch for another barrel or sending one of mine in to have it customized. I currently have 2-45-70's, 30-30, 375 jdj, and a 44 magnum. Any suggestions on another caliber. I lean more to larger calibers. I hunt mostly with the 45-70 and 375jdj. I'm thinking about a new 309 jdj, 35 Remington, or sending my 45-70 in for some work. Any thoughts.
I'm addicted but refuse professional help. Lol

I know you said larger calibers but I always thought the 6.5jdj was cool. Or perhaps one of his larger whispers.

I checked the ssk price sheet and I'm going to send them my stainless 45-70. I play to cut it down to 14", get a full rail, ported, and tsob mounts for my burris scope. Anybody had experience getting this done before. I will mail it off after deer season. I will send my scope with it.

I think the 416 JDJ or 416/348 JDJ would be hard to beat. I love my Competitor in 416 Barnes.

I don't think there is anything the 6.5 will do that the 309 won't do better. If you're thinking about a full rib make your scope decision first because a scope with a big objective bell won't fit.

Thanks Gary. This is why I go to this site. My Burris scope has a 32mm objective it maybe too big. Does the 309 jdj actually shoot .30 like my 30-30? If so that gives me a ton of bullet options. The 45-70 bullet selection is very limited.

The 309JDJ actually shoots .308 dia. bullets same as the 30-30. So that gives you a BUNCH of options in bullet selection. SSK does great work. They built a barrel for my encore and rechambered a contender barrel as well.

I had a .309 JDJ and took a bull caribou with it and several mulie bucks; great cartridge. I sold it to a friend and he has killed antelope and deer with it.
Great cartridge. Very close to .308 ballistics without the heavier Encore frame.
