Did some testing and more chrono work with my Barry Brown built XP-100 7TCU. It has a Lee Six stock, completely blueprinted and 14" Shilen barrel. I bought this several years ago from a member on the board but never got around to doing much work with it. It's topped with a Pentax 2-7x scope.
Today I ran some more loads over the chrono w/ AA2200 and 120gr VM's. 30gr went almost 2450fps with no pressure signs. At 200yds all the groups with various powder charges were under 1" vertical and 2" horizontal. At 100yds the groups were nice tight 1/2"-3/4" clusters. The wind was very switchy so I just shot through it but I'm confident that at 200yds getting sub 1.5" groups would be VERY doable.
Considering my .300 Savage XP-100 shoots 150gr bullets at 2400fps, I'm VERY pleased to see the 7TCU getting the same FPS w/ 120gr pills. That is well into 7-30 Waters territory.
When zeroed at 150yds (which is 1.5" high at 100yds), it is 4" low at 200yds. Since the gun was initially built for silhouette shooting and was lightened a LOT, it will be nice to tote compared to some of my other SSP's. This will make a very accurate and deadly all-around gun for hunting about anything up to deer sized game.
