I have decided to purchase a new Leupold for my 460 but wanted some feedback on if it is worth the money to step up to the VX-3 or stick to with the FX-11. Which would be the better choice for both hogs and deer, the 2x or 4x if going with the FX-11?

I always like 2x better than 4x on my wheel guns.

I started with 2Xs on my revolvers. However, I have since (over the years) changed most to 4Xs. With a 460 you have the range to use the extra Xs. I would suggest that the initial choice may rely upon your experience shooting handgun scopes and your ability to find the game in a small field of view.
It's more important where you hit 'em, than what you hit 'em with.

If staying with the fixed power, go to the 4X model.
I opted for the VX-3 for my .460, and both my long-barreled Casull's. I like the ability to turn up the magnification at 100 and beyond. (have several on single shots too)
A middle-of-the-road expenditure would be the Bushnell Elite 2x6 - a really good and durable variable.
