I'm planning on hunting with my PC 460 XVR Hunter this year but I need to get a scope on it. I've been doing my research and I'm stuck between leupold, Burris, and Nikon. I would like a variable power scope that can hold up to a beating. What do you guys suggest?

Leupold. And a second choice is none of the above; but rather the Bushnell Elite 2-6x Pistol Scope; 32mm Multi-X Reticle.

I have used them (early on) when they were made by the great company of Bausch & Lomb. They are great scopes, esp. for the price.

And I still own and use them; in both names.

Gregg, you must be referring to Bausch and Lomb? I bought one of the last scopes under that name many years ago. The company discontinued the scopes under that name, because of the affiliation with hunting. Amazing the foolishness started way back then.

Leupold all the way, don"t waste your time and money on anything else. I bought 2 Burris scopes, 1 for my Encore in 460, and it"s life span was 71 shots.

I kind of figured leupold would be the heavy favorite. I woul like a variable scope but the 2.5-8 leupold is really expensive in my opinion. I think the 4x20 will be the final choice. I have heard good about the Nikon scopes so I was hoping to hear more on them due to the more reasonable price of their variable power scopes.

Megaton, I've had the Nikon monarch 2.5x8 on a 475 linebaugh for several years. It's had many full tilt rounds set off under it and never had any issues. I don't think they make the monarch model anymore; it was replaced with a model that has BDC reticle. I liked the monarch better. One thing cool about the Nikon is, it has an adjustable eye piece that will allow full view no matter the eye relief or power setting.

Thanks KRal, I've seen Nikons mounted on 460s but I haven't been able to find reviews on the newer ones to see how they hold up to full house rounds. Especially after hundreds of them. I don't plan on shooting the full capability of the revolver all the time but I'd rather be over prepared.

I had the Leupold 2.5-8 on my XVR and the extra power came in handy to pull out the most from the 460. I sold the gun because I figured if I wanted to pack that much weight I'd step up to my Encores in cartridges that could really reach out but I was shooting MOA out to 150yds without a problem. I don't think I could have done that on 4x.

Vote for Leupold here as well. To me, it is either Leupold scope or iron sights. I've tried others, but my 460 knocked the snot out of everything else I tried. Went to Leupold and never had another issue.

Mount it, zero it, and forget it.

Im still 2/2 on burris. The older ones are huge but ive been really happy with the newer 2x7 on my 460. I have a bushnell on a fa 10" 454 thats held up nicely but doesnt have the ease of use as the burris. Eye relief js more critical on it but it is about 8 years old.

Raptortrapper, thanks for the info. Have you ever used a Nikon? Right now I'm torn between the Nikon 2.5-8x20 and the leupold 4x20.

I vote for the Bushnell 2-6X Elite. More compact than the other scopes. Have them on .454s and .500 S&W. Never a problem. Held up to recoil well.

MegaTon I like leupold. I like the looks of the Nikon 2.5-8x28 and assume that is the one you are talking about. I'm not a fan of 20mm objectives on anything bigger than 2x but with the quality glass Nikon has the 28mm should be as bright as most 32. I can't say if the Nikon can take the abuse and I have read bad comments about every scope manufacture the last few years. Good luck hunting with the 460.

Nope. Never used Nikon on the 460. I used a Nikon on a Ruger 10/22 rifle, but that isn't apples to apples. I think Nikon would be my second choice if I didn't like Leupold so much. Ya pay a little more for Leupold up front, but ya only have to do it once.

I reload, and have now put literally hundreds of rounds through my 460 since getting it last summer, and I haven't had to move the zero on it once. I found the load the gun likes, zeroed the scope (2.5-8x32), and I am now picking off milk jugs at 250 yards with full confidence. I have never had one single issue with the scope. I sighted in at 2" high at 100 yards last summer, and now it is just "stupid simple" to hit anything I set the cross hairs on.

If you can, I would get the Leupold. You won't regret it. If you do regret it, I'll buy it from you myself.

Thanks for the input guys. After all the posts it looks like I'm going to get the leupold 2.5x8. It'll cost more but the peace of mind I'll have from knowing it'll hold up will be worth it I think. I can't wait to put some deer and hogs on the ground with it this fall!!

Got the Bushnell Elite on my 460 S&W have put about 500 rounds through it and it always holds it's zero, I can hit a milk jug out to 210 yards with it. Gonna try to harvest a deer with it this year

Raptortrapper, how did you get the four rings on your scope? I see you have an MGM barrel and looks like mgm mount. Have tried to get rings on mine like yours but they wont fit. I also have a Leupold scope same as yours. Also looks like you are using warne rings to me as well which I have. Any information greatly appreciated. THanks

Just bought a S&W XVR in 460 . I see you mostly favor like Leupold. They're going for $550 . What about Weaver ? Same power for half the price ? Are they worthless ? I have a tactical 3x15x50mm on my AR-15 and its great ! But it cost over $700 bucks.

Great scopes, clear glass, generous eye relief, fine crosshairs.

Hells no. Its just that Leopold has a long track record. Leupolds break too, but they seem good about fixing things. I had a Weaver Classic on a .308 Competitor and it held up just fine.

I have a 2.5x8 Weaver on a Striker .308 and it has never changed
zero. It is picky as hell with eye position at the higher powers
though.I also have a 2x6 Bushnell Elite I like very well.Both hold zero and are a good value for the money.

Then I'll try a Weaver . My Revolver isn't drilled and tapped for mounts. Any recommendations ?

This is true. But I seldom go above 4x.

Leupold 2.5x8 and don't look back. The trouble with the Burris is the changing eye relief as you turn up the power. That can be overcome pretty easily on a single shot but not so much on a revolver.

I have a Nikon Force XR 2.5-8 power scope on my 8 3/8" XVR. I've fired quite a few factory loads and near max handloads with no problems whatsoever. It's definitely worth a consideration for heavy recoiling handguns.
