Got up at 0200, walked the dog, loaded the truck and drove 3.5 hours to my hunting property in NW Oklahoma. Second day of gun season here. I missed the opening day due to ice on roads and work. Snow was in the forecast for most of the day. 25* and no wind. Made it to my place at 0600,put all of my gear on, shouldered the pop up blind, Contender in my shoulder holster and folding chair and walked 1/4 mile into to a small finger of woods where I have been seeing deer during the primitive season two weeks back. As soon as I got to the woods is starting snowing so hard my headlamp as like a reflector shining back into my eyes. Got the blind set up and settled in for the day. I had one doe come within 10' of my blind just before shooting light and legal time. She never suspecting the 375JDJ was setting there, waiting for her to hang around. This buck came in from a grass field at a trot. He had a slight limp on his left front leg but was getting along pretty good. It was snowing so hard that I could not make out any horns at approx 50 yds. Didn't matter, I have two doe tags and one buck tag. All I wanted was some meat. After he stopped in the woods I could see he was the one my buddy had told me he had seen during archery. One horn had grown to a knob and the other side was small. I put the 2.5 Redfield scope on his should with him quartering a little to me and dropped the hammer. He jump forward, hit the ground and did a butt over head roll and that was done. I'm shooting a Contender 14" SSK 375JDJ with magnaport, 2.5 Redfield scope and TC Handcannon factory 220 grn bullets. I load my own 375JDJ ammo but all I had loaded was a bunch of 260grn Accubonds and some 270grn Hornady SP's. I have been shooting this round for about 10 years and have only killed pigs. Can't wait for next weekend to get a doe or two this pistol. If I hunt a long field on the same property I'm taking my Apache Machine 284 XP with a 3x12 Burris scope for some longrange hunting. Mike

Congrats!
By chance, have you ever chrony'd any of the factory 220 grainers from that barrel? I was just curious...

Hank, I have 640 acres 2 miles south of Gage and about 7 miles East of Shattuck. I used to hunt just west of 281, north of Alva, one mile from the KS line. Had a farmer that let me shoot does at the end of the season. Mike

Hawkeye,
Congrats, love the 375 JDJ. Where do you hang the widescreen HDTV in that blind?

Doc, GalaxyIII smart phone with movie streaming-don't need big screen, just reading glasses. Can get my shows, weather and text the other guys on the lease while hunting. Modern Technology!

Congrats, Hawkeye! That's a beautiful setting.
