I kill any coyote I can with whatever is in my hands. The only handgun yote so far was with my .45 Blackhawk and a 300gr XTP at 1200fps. reflex264

Only as an 'incidental'. When I target coyotes with a wheel gun, I generally use my .327mag.
It's not the gun, but the man behind it.

Whatever I'm holding at the time. Had an unlucky one run past last weekend and I happened to have a 375 H&H at the time. He hated it!

I use to call for them using a 1911 and occasionally would use a 44, 45 Colt or whatever fit my fancy that day. Those within 60 yards were usually harvested while my success was very limited much beyond 80 to 300 yards. I never saw any reason to quite shooting until the coyote/fox was out of sight or the handgun was empty.
With the fur prices being up in my neck of the woods these days, I now tote an AR with me/us when we call, as we are no longer just messing around out there - there's money at the end of the barrel now.
On thing about using the handgun - I found that the red dot is far superior for me than irons on coyotes attempting to break the sound barrier.

I actually purposefully use my 460pc for coyote hunting. 200gr barnes in front of some H110. I like the way it carries and with a bipod I don't think it holds me back much.
