Good evening everyone. I have the chance to buy a Competitor pistol with four barrels and all loading necessities. The barrels range from 22BR, 22-250 AI, 6.5 Rem Mag, and a .458x2" American. I am very interested in the 6.5 and the 22-250 AI, and would possibly use the .458 every now and then. My questions are as followed:
What is the good, bad and ugly of these pistols? All I know is that they are an improvement over the Lone Eagle and most of what I have read has been positive.
Is the Competitor Corp. still in business? I know they don't sell complete pistols any more, but have heard they still make barrels and parts. I called their number over the weekend and got a "busy" signal. I don't want a gun I can't get parts for.
If I want to sell a barrel or two, is there a market for them? Do any of you guys shoot them?
Anything else you can tell me? I love my T/C's but I am looking for a pistol that is more balanced in the hand. The T/C as you know is a long pistol and not very balanced. That being said I would never give up my .375 JDJ, but I would like a few new toys.
Thanks,
Brenden

The Competitor balance is awesome!! I've been hunting with a 16" .308W for a couple years now and LOVE IT.
As for the state of the company, Franchise to going to know that better than anyone.

I recently acquired one in 6.5 Rem. Mag and .243 .The gun shoots very well with the 6.5 barrel but brass can be hard to find .Thanks to a fine gentleman on this site we were able to make some from 350 Rem brass. My stock is back at Competitor Corp. getting a new trigger to fix a safety issue [the safety wouldn't work] They still have barrels and parts but do not manufacture complete guns.

My Competitor barrel in 475/350 Mag is finally on the way to me. I can't wait to see what .475 bullets will do at roughly 1900 fps....should be a real thumper!!!!

Thanks guys. I spoke with Franchise and he set me straight. I'm just playing the waiting game to see if the guy will drop the price some more, and I'm selling a few guns to pay for my purchase ( wife's orders!). I will have one, some day...

Brenden, I'm really glad we were able to talk. I hope you are able to get a Competitor. I know you will enjoy it.

Jerry, congrats on getting a Competitor! I have 4. All with different grips. Glad to see a few of the guys on here getting them. 300 Blackout, 376 Steyr, 416 Barnes, and 475/350 Rem Mag - that's what I've gotten so far.

I will just be glad to get my stock back from Competitor, been gone since Nov. I know they are short staffed but it should not take this long to replace a trigger unit.

I have a Competitor and am happy with the performance. I did have to replace a firing pin in Oct but it was my fault and easy enough to change. The competitor is a great platform. It's a simple but good design. It isn't the best looking handgun but not many handguns capable of firing rifle rounds are. The only real complaint I hear about is time waiting.

I think I may pass on the competitor, still not sure yet. With the company being so short staffed, and the ridiculous long wait times it may not be for me. I'm afraid what may happen if they ever close up shop. I like to find parts and I really enjoy buying new barrels, even if the wife doesn't like it.
I've been eye-balling the savage platform, and will most likely buy or build a striker. With after market parts being abundant and me being a pretty fair gunsmith/builder I'm confident I can do what I want. If I go the striker route, I will most likely move the grip and trigger farther forward for better balance when shooting longer barrels.
I'm leaning towards a 338 win mag for grins and giggles. I like good thumper in case a charging ground squirrel comes along.
Thanks, Brenden

The .338 federal would also be a good one ,or a .350 rem mag. Good balance of power to case capacity ratio and shouldn't have quite so much muzzle blast.Or a .470 Capstick as those charging squirrels take a lot of knocking down, [no brake on the Capstick as you say you like a good thumper now and again . Happy New Year
