Just purchased an ssk 14" barrel in 250 sav. I will be using it on a G2 frame and am aware that it is right at max for this platform and will be loading for it carefully. Have any of you guys used this set up before?

No, but I have a contender bbl in 300 Sav. Be careful.
It's more important where you hit 'em, than what you hit 'em with.

I have had an XP-100 chambered in .250 Savage for 24 years, and love it. Of course, the XP can be loaded a bit hotter than the Contender, but mine has never performed at its best with heavy loads anyway.

500WE, any favorite bullets or powders for handgun length barrels? Have you taken any game with your 250?

Yes. Hornady 100 gr. spire points or Nosler 100 gr. Ballistic tips, driven by H4895 & CCI BR2's. Experiment with charge weights to find what performs best in your gun. I've taken animals as small as prairie dogs, up through pronghorn and deer, up to scimitar horned oryx with mine. The 400-500 lb. oryx was pushing it, but its perfect for pronghorns etc.

It takes 43 muscles to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger squeeze.

I suggest you look at 30 and 30.5 gr H4895 with those 100's.

The 300 Sav contender bbl that I have actually originally belonged to a deceased friend of mine. I acquired various of his guns from his widow. This was one of them. I wanted it in my possession so that some less experienced person would not get it.
I have fired it and I have seem my friend kill deer with it (factory 150 gr bullets). It is close to the 309 JDJ in performance --- between it and 30-30 AI. In years past, I tried to get my 30-30 AI to duplicate it. Got close, but never there. However, I always felt that it pushes the envelope with respect to the contender frame. While the accuracy is good, I will likely never shoot it much.
Thus, I am not really that much help to you. If I were handloading for it, I would stay mid-range of the recommended loads. JMHO.
It's more important where you hit 'em, than what you hit 'em with.
