what is your favorite 45-70 load in a 14" tube? I have had good results with R#7 so far.

H4198 is working great for me. I am getting around 1900 fps with Hornady 300 grain JHP out of my 14" Hunter barrel.

I'm shooting the TC 45-70 Hunter barrel w/break. I have used only IMR4198 powder. I shoot 37 grn of it with Fed 210 Primer. I use the Sierra 300grn JHP and get 1410fps with it. It is shooting 2" at 100yds with a 4x Swift scope and I've taken two whitetails with it. Both were between 80 and 100 yds. One shot, in the shoulder of each and they just spun a 180 and dropped. I tried more powder but the groups suffered and didn't use any other powders yet. Mike

I shoot a .450 Marlin with a 14-inch barrel. I have not used the other powders listed here, but I use RL-7. Use it in my .375 Win also. I like it. Meters well and seems to be a very accurate powder. I shoot a mid-range load of RL-7 in the .450 with 350-grain Hornady Flat Points. I have killed 4-deer with it over the last two years. No problems with retrieval. Hope to get drawn on a KY elk. I sure would like to shake it loose on something a little bigger.

if your talking an encore and you aren't recoil shy I used 51.0gr of benchmark under a 440 gr cp in my 7.5" BFR for almost 1700 fps and excellent accuracy. I'm 6'3" @ 250 and it was all I could do to control the BFR, I let one person shoot it and when he almost ate the gun I never let anyone else try it. I shot a live ponderosa pine at about 50 yds, the tree was probably 18 to 20 inches in diameter and the bullet went completely through it.
I won't be wronged. I won't be insulted. I won't be laid a-hand on. I don't do these things to other people, and I require the same from them. John Wayne-The Shootist

I'm getting good performance from AA5744 and a 300gr Hornady. 2" at 100yds and 1800fps.
