I was looking at the Aimpoint 9000sc for my 454. Price is $640.00 with rings and $427 without at Midway USA. I'm sure I can find less expensive rings somewhere else. I like it because of the battery life of 5 yrs. and 2 moa dot. Is the Aimpoint worth the extra dollars? Have the Aimpoint PRO on my AR and really like it. Any op[inions would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

I'd go with the <$300 Ultradot Match Dot and change the $1 battery once a year.
Rod, too.
Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

I too would go Ultradot. I know they'll put up with the abuse, they have a lifetime warranty, and cost a whole lot less.

I do really like aimpoints, having a few of them. But I have tried them on handguns, and they just seem to me to be kinda bulky to the eye, when held at arms length v. a rifle mount. Between the battery compartment, the two tall turrets and the thick housing, there is lot out there to try and look around, even when shooting with both eyes open.
maybe pull the one off your rifle and have a look.

Another vote for the UltraDot. I don't think the extra $350 for the Aimpoint gets you anything more than the UltraDot does.

Whitworth, what about the ultra dot match dot. The one with the variable dot size. Built as good as the rest of them?

I prefer the Leupold DeltaPoint on handguns, when I want a red dot on them - I tried the Aimpoint micro but just preferred the Leupold. Now, that micro with 2 moa dot on the AR - That's the ticket for me.
You don't think about the price a couple years after the purchase, especially when it's done everything you asked of it and you haven't changed the battery.
Like 98Redline advised - not sure the extra money gets you anything better than a less expensive model in today's market, but you sure can't go wrong with an Aimpoint.

If you prefer a 2moa dot the Matchdot II has that option and others. If you are shooting a SRH 454 the matchdot can not be mounted between the regular Ruger rings.
