Guys i got invited to TX to do some deer hunting and wanted to bring my 7.5" Freedom arms 44 mag. I am shooting the Hornady 240 XTP with 24 grains of WW296 but i havent had a chance to chrono that yet. This gun shoots lights out and zeroed at 100 yds is shooting sub 2 inch groups. I was wondering how fast the drop off would be after this point say at 125 and 150? would love to get a pig with this bad boy and if i have to shoot farther ill bust out my custom XP 100 in 260.
This seems like a fairly standard load for the gun albeit not pushing it and while i have a decent idea of what it should do (ie recommendations form a good source on here) i would love to hear what you think drops would be in increments past 100.
thanks as always,
Don

The only way to know for sure is to shoot it at 125 or so. I think 150 is pushing it a bit, thats where the 260 comes in.JMO

Don,
Although I used the Sierra 240 JHC rather than the XTP with that load & gun, the velocity was a chronographed 1550 fps. It was also zeroed to be dead on at 25 & 100 yds.
It's been years since I tested it at over 100 yds., but I believe it was about 2" low @ 125 and 8" low at 150.
Ken

Great ken yes this is your 44 I couldn't find the sierras in stock so I used the hornady and they shoot impressively. At 50 which is where I can really control the 2x scope it's tight cloverleafs and on steel it's the same mark over and over. I figured it wouldn't kill me to know what it does past 100 which is all I have had access to but I'll reconfirm before testing on game. Scary accurate gun. And I can really control the 44.
