Look what arrived on Christmas Eve.
\:D

I had Match Grade Machine make me a 10" Full Bull Blued steel barrel for my Encore. I had them D&T for TC Fiber Optic Sights, but replaced the rear with a Williams peep sight minus the aperture, so it's like a ghost ring. The gun weighs slightly more than my Super Redhawk with a 7 1/2" barrel and is about 1/2" longer. I can't wait to get this sighted in and ready for next hunting season.

I also got a bunch of the Underwood 340gr hard cast +P+ ammo for it. Does any one have any experience with this ammo?

Hope to post a range update soon, when I can squeeze it in around the work schedule.

Sorry for the bad cell phone pics.

Sweet! You will be able to milk all the 44 has to offer with that rig.

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

Nice!

The Underwood 340 +P should be "sporty" in that configuration

Bras..,

Obviously, you've been good in the past year. I got a lump of coal in which to make some black powder. Just need to find the saltpeter!

Thanks guys.

I hope to get out in the next few days and begin the barrel break in process. MGM provided a detailed break in procedure, and they don't guarantee any level of accuracy from their barrels, but they did say if it wasn't shooting 1" @ 100 yards to give them a call.

MGM did really great work on the barrel. If you've ever read any of Mike Bellm's writings on chambers, MGM followed them to the letter. Nice sharp shoulder unlike the factory toilet bowl forcing cone. MGM has great customer service and their pricing for my barrel was right at what a factory TC 44 mag barrel costs. So far, so good, now just to see how it shoots.

I picked up a NIB original TC shoulder holster for a 10" barrel Contender or Encore and it fits good. I modified it to a bandolier holster for easier on and off in the field.

I'll take some pics of the rig when I hit my range soon.

I was just thinking how handgun hunting has taken over my style of hunting. A few years ago, I didn't even own a handgun for hunting, and now, I have way more than I can carry in a season. I used to have a bunch of rifles, and now I only have 3 heirlooms. I just love the challenge of hunting with a handgun.

I carried my 480 SRH's this season, although no handgun kills since I wasn't meat hunting this year, I had plenty of deer in my sights that I just let them walk on by. I got a couple in a shotgun only area, but they were at handgun distance, since I have adapted how I hunt now.

Sorry, I got a little off track, but I just love handgun hunting!

Thanks BT,

Unfortunately, I didn't get out shooting because it was so cold the past few days.

I know, Suck It Up Buttercup, yeah, yeah, yeah, but if I can't enjoy shooting on my range, I'll just wait for a nicer day. That's the benefit of be able to walk outside the house and be at the range.

Turkey season is back in this Saturday so I'm not sure when I'll get out next to shoot, but stay tuned. I post the results when I do.

That's a nice looking barrel. I really like my 13" in 260rem from MGM. That underwood load is hot and pretty much overkill for medium game IMO but I'm interested in hearing how it shoots. I have killed a lot of game with 44's over the years using everything from 180 grain to 275 grain with no problems. Keep us posted.
