I would like to use a compact red dot sight on some of my hunting handguns. I have Ultra Dots on two [with no problems] but, would like to go more compact. Also, I have the second JPoint on my Ruger 45 bisley and this one is working well so far. Do any of you have experience with a Burris Fastfire 3 and how did you mount it? I will probably use an FA83 and/or a 44mag Ruger Bisley hunter. If possible add pictures please.

I really like my fastfire 3. I have it mounted on a Super Blackhawk Hunter, in the rear dovetail using the burris mount for Rugers. It has yet to give me problems, or lose zero. There are a few pictures of the setup on the bragging board, but I can't get them moved here at the moment.

Yes, you will need to shorten a small section of the ledge that is on the side of the mount. Takes about 15min, and mine has held zero for years. If you go with the fastfire 3, pm me, and we'll talk on the phone, and I can explain it in detail much easier.

I have the FastFire II on my AR pistol and on an AK. Love them. Great compact dots. I use the Picatinny rail mount with them

Keep in mind that Utradot's L/T is quite compact as well. I've tested the JPoint sight on my .480 SBH and it wouldn't hold any of the sight settings I dialed in. Don't know if it's just a bad unit or I've damaged it with recoil. It's not easy finding optics that will hold up to these revolvers.

I have a Trijicon RMR on my Ruger SBH 480 - no problems so far. I got the mount from Amerigun.

Hi Max,,,,,,,,,I don't know if you remember but I put the Jpoint on my 45 Colt about the same time as you and had the same results as you. They promptly sent another and I haven't had any issues with this one. I would much rather have an adjustment for the brightness though. I will take a look at the L/T though.

I am looking at the Ultradot L/T, Vortex Venom, and Burris Fastfire III as the best sights for my application. Thanks guys for your input!

What do y'all consider the right dot size for handgun hunting?

What do you consider the right dot size for handgun hunting? This depends on the distance and shooting conditions you expect, but overall a 3 to 5 moa dot are best, IMO. However I do have a 7.5 moa mini reflex red dot on a revolver which I like as it is easier to find, and is good to about 100 yards on big game but begins to obliterate the target at that distance.
Rod, too.
Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

There was nothing wrong with it and actually, it is really nice, low profile, fast acquisition. I just use my SRH as a walking gun more than anything and wanted to go back to iron sights. With the Ruger mount and some blue loktite the FF3 never gave me the first bit of trouble. You will like it!
