I added a 45/70 lever action to my gun safe to go along with my Contender barrel. I tried some 405gr Remington bullets, seating them to the deepest crimping groove. Problem is they will not cycle through the gun. I have not yet measured them, but I am sure I will find them too long based on the OAL in my manual. I should have measured them, but I wanted to shoot. Dummy me. I will deal with them later. Anyway, what I really intend to shoot is a 405gr LBT, wide & flat-nosed type bullet. I hate to buy them if I cannot use them in the Contender and Marlin 1895 lever gun. The Contender is no problem, but does anyone have some experience with the 45/70, Marlin 1895, 405gr LBT-type wide & flat, gas-checked bullet-gun combination?
