Just wondering, which do you all prefer? Mornings? Afternoons? Maybe even midday? All of the above?

I like hunting anytime period but a lot of my good spots are better in the evening. It's not that there not good in the morning too but you scare everything off walking in so your just better off to go in mid day and wait for them to come out. So it just depends where I'm hunting at. It also depends on the time of the year because during the rut your just as likely to see a big buck at noon as you are at daylight or dark. I'm a bowhunter first and foremost and anytime I get a chance from sept 15 to Jan 15 I like to be in a tree in my summit climber.

I like the mornings for hunting the woods where the deer come to bed after feeding all night. I have several tree stands and ground blinds for different weather and winds for morning hunts. I like hunting the green fields in the afternoon with my XP's so I can reach out there and get them. Mike

My hunting is predominantly spot-and-stalk in big country. It has been my experience that making a slow and easy move during the late morning into the country I want to hunt has been by far most successful for me. Most of my kills have actually been between 1:00pm and 4:00pm.
If it were supposed to be easy, they'd have sent my little sister to do it.

I like mornings best because I know I will have plenty.of daylight to do any tracking that may be required and I hate cleaning deer after dark. But I hunt whenever I can.

I love mornings. Ignoring the fact that here in the south the afternoons can be hotter then he** and the mornings offer a little relief from the heat, Mornings to me are like Christmas. When the shadows start moving around you and you cant tell if it's a buck or how big, I love that feeling.
I second the daylight tracking jobs to.
Dam, now I cant stop thinking about it but I still have five months until rifle season. Gonna have to go shoot some hogs!!!!!!!

Depends on weather, moon phase, temp. Warm weather i find deer move longer in the morning during shooting light. They move at last light or after dark on hot days .Aproaching weather fronts 2 hrs before it arrives and as long as i can stand wind and rain. Rut all day if i can . High pressure gun season i will get in the tree around 9 am and stay till dark . Have killed many midday bucks during gun season. Still hunt rainy days and high wind days.

Afternoon, unless circumstances dictate otherwise. I'm too braindead in the morning to enjoy it. I can do it but prefer afternoons. Since I've been hunting my own property, it's been strictly afternoons.

I enjoy hunting in the mornings, but in truth, that hunting has been more productive in the evenings.

I prefer late afternoon or evening. I like to spot and stalk, and I find them moving around a little easier during this time. I'm colorblind, so it's hard for me to see them if they are laying down under trees, in grass, or whatever during the middle of the day.

My thoughts exactly, especially about having to clean deer after dark. That said, I hunt both mornings and evenings about the same amount, but most of my deer kills have been in the morning.

I prefer hunting in the morning ... Around here there seems to be a much greater chance at a shooter buck early in the day. My morning stands are generally positioned on established travel routes. In the afternoon I hunt the timber located close to food plots or the smaller plots suitable for handgun.

both. creeping the edge of a ceder swamp. a little snow on the ground and in the air, just as the sun comes up is almost heaven. heaven after hunting grouse and woodcock is siting on an old stump, having a smoke, patting your dog, watching the sun go down.

There is just something special about the woods waking up around you as you sit anxiously waiting in the morning. That said, I prefer to hunt throughout the day on foot, working slowly along a good trail scanning the perifery for a glint of antler or a patch of brown or white hair. Evening can be productive and we can legally hunt here til 1/2 hour after sunset although I pack it in well before that so I am not tempted by an iffy shot in waning light. If I should need to do some tracking I'd rather be able to see what I am doing.
Rod, too.

Mornings for the same reasons some of ya'll posted about tracking and or gutting in daylight. Chilly overcast days I will hunt all day if possible as the lack of sun seems to screw with their internal clock or perhaps makes them think predators can't see them as easily.

Both for me as well. I really enjoy hunting at night as well - where it is legal to do so.

I hunt both, but I much prefer the afternoons. I'm not a very good morning person.
Yes, even if I'm hunting!
I hunt the mornings though, because my hunting time is somewhat limited, and I always bring one or a couple of my kids along. I don't want to short change them in too many ways. Being groggy and cold and maybe not mentally into it is all part of it sometimes.

I hunt both mornings as well as evenings. I handgun hunt from a stand. I have taken way more deer late in the day with a handgun. Back when I hunted with a rifle, we had a lot more hunters in the woods around here moving deer around. I killed more deer in the morning with a rifle. I think your hunting location is the biggest factor on Morning or Evening success.

I hunt anytime I can of course but have been more successful in Morning's . My brother ( even hunting same areas/stands) has more success in Evenings. My largest Whitetail did come from a last min. evening hunt but is the only time I have harvested a nice buck in Evening all others was on Morning hunts.
I do believe location/timing makes all the difference in success and Buck/Doe sightings/harvest while Whitetail Hunting. I see/harvest more Bucks than Does.

I prefer afternoon/evening hunts.
I get up 5 to 6 days a week at 4:20am for work. When I get a chance to sleep in, I take it. Opening day of deer season I'm up and ready to go!!! I peter out quickly after that and sleep in more and more.

Afternoon except during the rut then mid morning, for deer. For bear anytime a hound can smell him.
