The gun shoots very well for a Take-Off barrel and a slow twist. I'm rather pleased for what little I have in the gun. Sort of a spur of the moment parts gun.

I was initially going to thread the barrel and I may eventually do so. But, it's not at the moment. I actually shot the pistol mostly left handed and ran the bolt with my right hand today. Been awhile since I've shot a SP with a bi-pod and now I remember why I don't like the bounce that results. A brake will assuredly help with that. I've been spoiled with field rests and heavy bench rests.

I'll lighten the trigger more when I take it apart to coat the stock. The scope is a good hunting scope, which this gun is purpose built for. A little light powered for target work, but it suited fine.

I'm pretty happy with the build and plan to hammer some hogs in the near future with her.

Great looking and shooting rig you have there! Surprised that shoots the 178grain bullet so well with that twist rate. That should put some bacon on the table for sure! Keep posted on your success with it! Good luck!

Nice build!
The Choate stock looks to have worked out pretty well. That should have helped keep the expense down.
Chopping a take off rifle barrel should also have helped keep it cheaper. It looks like it will be a shooter also.
Keep us posted.

Yeah, this was somewhat of a budget build. Just to see if all the pieces parts would work well together.

It appears they did.

That Choate stock being made of solid plastic was a natural to rework. We have an old Ultimate Sniper stock reworked with lots of Epoxy Fill. We reworked it for an old Russian Vostok 22 LR Target Rifle project, making it Left Hand friendly. The Varmint stock is a better design.

I would think a brake would help it. I am sure it is way to loud to shoot without hearing protection anyway. So the added noise should not be a problem.

I was originally going to brake the gun and may still do it at some point. But, the recoil isn't bad at all, though. So, while a brake would be nice, it isn't necessary.

The video did not look like it was recoiling badly at all. I would have thought a 308 handgun would be fairly nasty to shoot. It looked to recoil straight back instead of flipping the muzzle up.

Finished her up today.

Coated the stock with three colors of AlumaHyde II and set the Timney Trigger to 1.25 pounds of pull. A final zero and she will be good to go.

Did you end up putting a brake on this SP?

No.

Maybe in the future. But, currently.......I'm fine without one.

I have a Remington 700ML.

Would love to do this same project with it. I'm not aware of any law that would preclude one from taking a Blackpowder Rifle to Blackpowder Pistol.
