I finally finished all the mods on my new Glock Model 40 in 10mm Auto.

Williams Adjustable Fire Sight
Lone Wolf 3.5lb Connector
Sand Decal Grips
Lone Wolf +2 Mag Extension
Lone Wolf .40 S&W Conversion Barrel

From this:

To this:

I have been discretely conducting load development and wandering off the reservation a little in the process.

Seated 180gr HST bullets long @ 1.280" COAL originally.
Initial Longshot Test Loads:
9.2gr = 1,275 fps
9.4gr = 1,284 fps
9.6gr = 1,300 fps
9,8gr = 1,305 fps
10.0gr = 1,330 fps

But, the bullets were dragging in the magazine because they were seated too long. So, the new seat depth was 1.270" COAL and I ran the following loads:

9.6gr = 1,333 fps
9.8gr = 1,314 fps
10.0gr = 1,312 fps
10.2gr = 1,317 fps

Seems like, at that seat depth, 9.6 was all she could burn and the rest was wasted.

Today, I tried 9.6gr Longshot again. This time, one batch with CCI-300 Primers and another with CCI-350 Primers. They grouped the same as to accuracy and their velocity was identical. So, no benefit there.

I also tried 10.3gr Longshot................just for laughs. It too averaged around 1,315 fps. So, no velocity gain. Looks like 9.6gr Longshot is the winner. And, as per the penetration test I conducted.........1,330 fps is about all the HST bullet can take up close.

The new sights really aid in the accuracy of the gun. I like that they are adjustable and the front blade is thinner than the factory one. They stand out well in light.
The 3.5 pound connector took the trigger pull from 4.5 pounds down to 4 pounds. I might do some more work to the trigger mechanism to get it lower/smoother/etc. I am somewhat disappointed in the Decal Grips. They used to be more aggressive when they originally came out. The company seems to smoothed them down some and, quite frankly, they suck compared to what they once were. Won't be buying them again.

The Lone Wolf .40 S&W Conversion Barrel was a winner as well.

It took the velocity of the 155gr HST ammo from 1,230 fps in the factory 10mm barrel to 1,248 fps and improved accuracy as well.

With the addition of a weapon mounted light, the .40 conversion barrel is my new bed side gun.

Overall, I am very happy with the gun. Not as nice to shoot as a 1911 and maybe not as accurate. But, recoil is minimal and with the 6" barrel and all the extras I can do with the gun, I think I made the right choice over a 1911. Both in cost and options.

I will be doing some 10mm load work with 165gr Winchester "T" Series bullets and maybe some 165gr Speer Gold Dot bullets as well. See how fast I can push them and is they are a viable hunting bullet.

Roink!

Nice gun. Still think you should have gone for the EAA hunter instead of some soulless plastic gun, but... Hey, it works!

Nice!

I almost got the Glock model 40 10mm for a hog gun myself. I chose to go with the Ruger SBH Lipsey's 454 Casull instead.

Occasionally, I still want the Glock M40....

Rog

I have the Lipsey's Casull as well. But, I needed something that was night capable with a light/laser mount as several of the agricultural fields I hunt, the pigs are strictly nocturnal.

One of the 10mm loads is done.

Working on a 165gr Gold Dot load now. Hoping that bullets doesn't shred at the 10mm velocities.

How far do you plan to shoot it?

Zee, Thanks for yet another great report.

The Williams front sight looks much higher than the standard Glock sight. Have you found any difficulty finding a holster with a sight channel that will fit it?

The difference in groups is intriguing, have you tried larger shot groups to see if its a consistent pattern?

I'd probably say 50 yards would be my max distance at night.

I've only tried a Galco Yaqui Slide that I currently have. Though, I want to try a Serpa soon.

As to groups. I'm mainly playing around with velocity and looking for max in relation to my gun. Still playing with other bullets as well. I'll settle on one eventually and then start playing the accuracy thing.

Just having fun pushing bullets faster than they are supposed to go right now. I shredded that 180gr HST bullet in some water jugs the other day at 1,333 fps. It did fine out of a .40 S&W velocity. At 10mm velocity.........it comes apart.

Pushed a 165gr Gold Dot to 1,380 fps today. Going to try and break 1,400 with it tomorrow. Then, I'll put it through watwer jugs as well. See if I can make a bonded bullet turn inside out.

I'm not an experienced afficianado of either the Glock or the 10mm. They are both very effective, I know, they just never fit me. Having said that, however, your write-up and report are excellent. Well done.

If it were supposed to be easy, they'd have sent my little sister to do it.

I pushed the 165gr Gold Dot to 1,408 fps today. Thinki Ok stop it there and do some penetration tests with that bullet.

Hope you don't mind me jumping on your thread but thought I could help with the holster question.

It is the KT Gunfighter Mechanized holster and it fits great with the Suppressor sights I have on my G40.
