Just read the handgun dangerous game article. Very enjoyable and easy to tell he is a hunter first and writer second. Good job Mark.

Thanks for the kind words gents. What is a bit disturbing -- a few readers/subscribers have written the editor complaining about this article -- and cancelling their subscription. It's difficult for a country boy to fathom someone crying over a hunting piece in a gun rag.
If any of you have a spare moment -- send the editor an email with a hunter's viewpoint. Many Thanks!

Mark I just went back and reread the article.I certainly found nothing over or under stated in it.It was a very well written article stating just how it is, or can be. Looking forward to the next article.

I rather liked it! As I said earlier it sounds like a hunter writing instead of a writer hunting. Email on the way.

I enjoyed the article. Handgun hunting is a niche sport and not for everybody, I am guessing a lot of people are simply uneducated as to the killing power of a modern handgun or speciality pistol like the Encore/Contender - XP 100.

Thank you for taking the time to send the editor an email. I would hate to see the whine-bags win the day. I can't imagine a gun magazine without a little hunting related material. As handgun hunters, we don't get a lot of ink in the first place. Now we have some who would like to take that away. Again -- Thank You for your time and efforts.
Appreciatively, Mark

This was an awesome point of view. I have only been into handgun hunting for the last 5 years. I know that feeling well about the lions. I was at 18 yards with my scoped SRH 454 casull on my lioness. Biggest adrenaline rush of my life. I too will also be sending an email to the editors. Keep the articles coming.

Great article Mark. I used to search high and low looking for writing from experience like yours, guess what?? There weren't any! I love to see this from you and then folks go and complain. Figures. Dang snowflakes!!

You know, I like custom 1911s and such as much as the next guy but geez, how many things can we write about a Glock etc. it gets old because there is only so much to write so it's nice to see a new hunting article in it. I wish there was one every issue!! Mark has enough adventures under his belt he could write a new hunting column each issue from now till the end of my reading day!! And I'd be thrilled to see each one. I sent Roy an email this am myself. Hope he doesn't cave to the new wave of "handgunners".

I'd subscribe if there were more hunting articles. I'm not a techy so a lot of what is written in the gun mags don't interest me. It's the adventures using those guns that does.

it is a shame that a group of people likely unable to keep a 10 shot magazine worth of ammo on a b27 at 7 yards is able to influence the direction of a worthwile magazine.

First let me say how much I enjoyed the article. A good read as always from Mark.
I think the problem is that magazines such a American Handgungger cater primarily for: i. the Tacticool brigade of wannabes, ii. those with a genuine interest in self defense, iii. Tech heads looking for the latest gadget. iii. Competition shooters iv. Almost everyone else. v. At a distant last, hunters like us.
Sad to say but it may be that i-iv are as infested with tree huggers as much of the rest of the population. Modern media has created a culture where elephants, hippos etc are elevated almost to the sacred. To those totally disconnected from nature, hunting is a sin. Your comments about the how the harvest went to the local populations means nothing to them. They think that unless its wrapped in plastic and comes from the supermarket self, then its not food.
Mark, keep up the good work. While the current generation may be lost, there's always hope that the next will reconnect with reality.

Very well written article by someone I consider at the very top of our game. I can't see how anyone could find fault with such a great write up, it guns & hunting at it's finest & Mark explained in great detail how the meat is much needed. I know that many of those people get porridge or rice if they are lucky.

Mark, I've done the same dangerous game in Africa as you have and get the same crap that you do here in the US and, initially, in Africa until they see me perform. Even had the guides of 2 US western hunts this year question my ability and the gun's. I reminded them of that after each hunt was over successfully. Bow hunters get more respect than we handgunners do and that just ain't right.

Bow hunters get more respect than we handgunners do and that just ain't right. Lots of folks in the industry are closed minded. I have been pushing my handgun hunting agenda in American Hunter for years now and they only occasionally get complaints. We just have to keep chipping away, and supporting the efforts of Mark and Doc Rogers, and everyone else who is high enough in profile to draw criticism.

The industry is completely closed minded and it just keeps taking guys pounding away. The only two i know of consistently is max and mark. Id libe to know the readership of the above two mags to know how many are being reached. If this sport grows then we get more choices and more opportunities but we get factioned off. I dont care what "camp" youre in if ya love handgun hunting upu owe it to yourself to support the work of these guys in the trenches writing and promoting our sport!

Id libe to know the readership of the above two mags to know how many are being reached. Last I checked, American Hunter goes to more than a million households a month. That is the beauty of a membership based publication, you can get exact numbers unlike the voodoo science applied to circulation numbers normally associated with the publication business. They're closed minded in that they go with what sells. It's difficult to compel people to take up a method of hunting that requires a great deal of skill, tolerance to recoil and a boatload of practice. The point I always hit on in print is the challenge it provides and the satisfaction that follows a successful hunt that wasn't a walk in the park. I do it personally, because it isn't easy and it is the one arena I can still exert alpha male tendencies since I am too damn old to box anymore and my days of traipsing around in war zones and minefields are long done..... To me there is nothing like getting on the ground within spitting distance of something that can turn you into a grease stain on the tarmac. But I digress...... This is a call to all of you who would like to see what we do promoted more enthusiastically and vigorously, to make the effort to not only receive publications that feature handgun hunting even if only occasionally and to make the effort to write to those publications to voice your pleasure or displeasure with what they are bringing out.
