This is an all new gun with lots of options from the Remington Custom Shop. This is the first anyone is seeing the guns but given the setup on a blueprinted 40X action pillar bedded and a 40x fully adjustable trigger it will be a notable improvement over the older XP-100s.

Remington is producing some amazingly accurate guns today and I have no doubt these guns will shoot. This configuration has a threaded barrel with a muzzle brake, an Accuracy Int'l. detachable magazine and bottom metal and is topped with the Leupold 2.5x8 handgun scope. If you want to stay true to tradition you can also get the gun as a single-shot.

Do you know what the price range is going to be?

It's going to depend on the configuration but they will be over 2 grand and could go up to 3500 or more depending on the wood.

Not interested in a rear grip. Any chance of a midgrip?

For that price, you can have twice the gun plus glass from a true custom shop. Ridiculous that they cant keep it in the $1K range.
A pretty rig, but not reasonable for the wallet for what you get.

I'll get a better look at these during SHOT. Always glad to see new hunting handguns introduced but the over $2000 to $3500 price tag will deter buying interest. Hopefully the guys in the custom shop have other tasks or they may end up being like the Maytag repairman.

This is a true custom shop. In a similar configuration, it will be about the same price point as the HS Precision gun.

Yes, these are only through the custom shop and it will take 4-6 months to build it. Probably on the longer end if you want high grade wood. It's all hand fitted and finished.

I am deterred one can get an incredible gun from very reputable boulders for allot less money than that. I have a full custom from Gary Reeder in 240 Raptor that is THE most accurate handgun I own and it was half that amount. Plus it has a mid grip custom laminated stock. It's a great idea but the accountants need to keep,thier greedy little hands out of this project and it has a chance.

That price is stupid! They will effectively put themselves back out of the SP market.

If they can market an 700 ADL for less than $400 and a 700 SPS for $500...............they could market a SP for the same.

I understand there is a difference in the 700 and 40x actions. I have/had both and the 40x is a mighty fine action. But, so is the 700.

I guess I'm saying, why are the offering a Freedom Arms class when they can offer a Super Blackhawk class instead of or as well.

By only offering the high end option, I think they are going to shoot themselves in the foot. They sure aren't doing the SP community any favors by offering a platform out of reach of 75% (SWAG) of your buying market.

I can build one for half that price ($3,500) or less that will shoot just as well for all intents and purposes.

Yeah. There will be the collectors and the more well to do that will buy one. But, as easy as it would be to offer a sub 1K bolt action SP..............why isn't anyone?!?

Bare 700 Action: $350
Stock/Chassis: $200-400 (yes you can spend more)
Trigger: $100-150
Barrel: $150-350
Chamber/Build: $400-800

I'd say, depending on your parts and whether you build yourself or have someone else do it.......You can build as good (at least) a bolt action SP as they are offering for +/- $1,000 on the low end to $1,800 on the high end.

They are beautiful guns. Don't get me wrong. I'd love to own one. I'm not however. Because, I can and have (as mentioned) build/built one for less.

To sum it all up, they can build a nice high end SP......ok.

But, does anybody know WHY they won't offer an entry level SP? They could do it with existing parts and other than the stock.........not farm out for any other parts.

Got to be a reason that a low sale volume, time consuming, high priced custom seems a marketable product and a Model 7 or 700 SPS specialty pistol does not.

The ONLY reason.........and I believe it's the one......that they don't offer an entry or mid level SP is "production".

With a "production" gun, they would have to have an inventory on hand to send to distributors and they may or may not sell fast or at all. But, they have to be made prior.

With a custom...........it's basically money up front and they aren't out any investment without a "promise" of sale. You order........they make. Nobody orders.......no money lost. Other than production research and example models.

So, it's like offering something to the public without investing in the public.

Unfortunately.........I feel it will be the beginning of the end for that offering.

Show of hands.........how many here are going to spend $2,500 for a base model 40x SP? Any takers for the top end fancy wood model?

Personally, if I was going to pay that price, I'd drop it on a HS Precision that has a 1/2 MOA ga-rone-tee. Just saying....and....it's a center grip.

I'd never spend the money on the new offering. I can do the same thing for considerably less money. I've not been impressed with Remington the past few years either.

I used to build rifles ( still do but not as often), and I could build a fine weapon for a lot less than you could pick up a new 700. I've also built a few that cost considerably more.

Pretty sure I could do the same thing they are doing here for $700-800. Their prices are absurd and sicken me.

It will be like a lot of the 460 S&W revolvers that were sold. Some guys will buy it, have it long enough to show it off to their buddies, and off to the nearest pawn shop it will go.

oh yeah, just going high end is gonna kill the deal.

I'm glad we agree that it is a poor marketing strategy for the SP community.

I will continue to build them for less and enjoy an end product of my design. I'm not good at leaving a gun stock anyway. If they made an entry model SP..........I'd modify it anyway. Ha!

On a good note, anybody know who makes the synthetic stock they are using? Looks like an HS or B&C.

The input that I read here does seem to have SOME validation but, I do not believe that most posters on this topic really understand the meaning of TRUE CUSTOM.... a hand build firearm, car, motorcycle....what have you, all comes with a price. you take nothing but premium components, hand assembled... THE DAKOTA ARMS WAY, finished the same way with a 1/2 minute accuracy guarantee and a unconditional lifetime guarantee.... there is NO WAY you could build these types of QUALITY handguns for the kind of money you posters are stating in this thread... I have had numerous custom firearms built for me, some through the Remington Custom Shop and some from other TOP TIER builders in the country and every one of them has been pretty much on par with the costs that Remington is stating that these will sell for. I own several Dakota rifles and their attention to detail is far better than 95% of the custom gun builders you read about all the time.
I realize that I am opening a can of worms here but, you guys really need to do your homework before posting some of the silly things that you do. I look forward to reading the comments on this one.........................

Silly things? It's common sense, I don't pay for someone to build it for me. I weld, I drill and tap, chamber, start from blank wood or a semi inlet, and do everything in between. That's a lot more that what is going on here.

Anyone can take a m700, 40x, model 7, set the headspace ( remage barrel or short chamber) and get a quality stock blank. Bed the stock or add pillars and you will have something that looks just as good and can shoot right with it.

Most of us here fully understand what a true custom entails. There are several here that can do all of this work themselves. Here is the cost savings. Do it yourself and you don't have to pay the ridiculous premiums.

Im reaching for you, but I can't quite feel you on this one. This is a simple build that most with a bit of common sense can achieve. People have been doing it for years.
