Spinsail, I don't know about all that

No doubt the single shot extends the range in most cases, but wheelguns are what accompany me into the whitetail woods most of the time. Of course there are exceptions

I've taken a whole lot more deer with revolvers than with single shots, probably 5-1 over the years since 1966.

I HAVE TAKEN A LOT OF ANIMALS WITH SINGLE SHOTS BUT TAKE THE MOST PRIDE IN MY REVOLVER KILLS. IF RIFLE HUNTING IS A 1 AND REVOLVER HUNTING A 10 THE SINGLE SHOTS ARE IN THE 4 - 6 RANGE. EXCEPT FOR MY FIRST AFRICAN SAFARI, THE OTHER 10 WERE ALL REVOLVERS WITH THE EXCEPTION OF 1 IMPALA KILLED WITH A 375-06 JDJ ENCORE.

For me that's true as of right now, but I'm working on becoming proficient with my revolvers for this season. That said, when I absolutely need some venison for my freezer or for a friend, and the late season holdouts just won't come in close, my 300 Encore will certainly get the job done right there, at any range, and with authority.

Let's do it Chance! We all hunt deer with our handguns, and my wife's already got dibs on a few on the trail cameras.

A NICE 10 POINT BUCK, PROBABLY THE PRETTIEST BUCK I EVER SHOT, HE JUST LOOKS GOOD. TAKEN IN SE JIM HOGG COUNTY, TEXAS, WITH A RPM XL IN 356 WINCHESTER USING A HANDLOADED 180 gr. SSP HORNADY BULLET. I AM NO LONGER ON THAT DEER LEASE AND MY EDWARDS COUNTY (HILL COUNTRY) RANCH CANNOT COMPETE WITH SOUTH TEXAS FOR BIG DEER, SO MY BIG DEER DAYS ARE BEHIND ME.

Honestly I think we are a bunch of killers! Some nice deer and plenty of them. This thread might be a good recruiting tool to bring in more handgun hunters.

I love seeing the successful woods hunts and the "bow shot" distance kills. Another one of the reasons I live handgun hunting.

17 POINT WHITETAIL, SE JIM HOGG COUNTY, TEXAS, TAKEN WITH A RPM XL 308 USING FACTORY 150 gr. WINCHESTER AMMO, MY HIGHEST SCORING BUCK EVER - WON THE HHI BIG BUCK CONTEST THAT YEAR WITH THIS BUCK. HIS LIVE WEIGHT WAS 230 lbs., WHICH FOR YOU NORTHERN BOYS MAY NOT SEEM OVERLY BIG BUT IN TEXAS 200 lb. DEER ARE BIG DEER. AT THE DEER PROCESSOR IN RAYMONDVILLE, TEXAS THEY SAID IT WAS THE LARGEST BODIED (HEAVIEST) DEER EVER TAKEN IN THERE, IT WAS EARLY SEASON, SHOT AT LAST LIGHT, AND HE WAS IN PRIME CONDITION. MY ONCE IN A LIFETIME BUCK.
