I am an unabashed Ruger accumulator. I love Bisleys and have one in every chambering except 454. I also am quite fond of Redhawks but only have one, a 4 inch in 45 Colt. I am pondering collecting one of each chambering but in 5.5 or 7.5 inch but haven't decided which at this time. I found the four inch to be a bit heavy for every day belt packing so these will be strictly hunting handguns for when they are the only gun carried, most likely in a chest rig. I haven't decided whether to scope them or not but am leaning that way. I'm leaning toward the 7.5 inch but welcome your thoughts on barrel length on a Redhawk as strictly a hunting handgun. Thanks.

I personally think 7.5 is a better choice for increased powder burn. You'll realize more of the guns true potential this way.

That's a beaut James. I know they made the 41 and 44 in blued but did they ever do a blued 357 and 45 Colt Redhawk? I don't recall ever seeing a blued one of either.

I have a 5.5" 44 mag Redhawk that I love. I have killed six whitetails with it, five with open sights and the last with a reddot. I really like how that barrel length balances and gets on target quick.

Barrel length is a personal thing. My 45 Bisley started out with a 7-1/2" barrel but it just seemed long to me for woods carry so I chopped ot off @ 6" and couldn't be happier.

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

I LOVE OPEN SIGHT REVOLVERS WITH 5 & 5 1/2 INCH BARRELS, I CAN SHOOT THEM BETTER THAN 4 INCHERS AND THEY CARRY BETTER THAN 6 1/2 AND 7 1/2 INCHERS. IF YOU ARE GOING TO SCOPE THEM GO WITH THE 7 1/2's, OTHERWISE GO WITH THE 5 1/2's.

P.S. I HAVE A SS 7 1/2 INCH REDHAWK IN 357 (POSSIBLY LNIB) THAT I WOULD BE WILLING TO PART WITH AT A VERY GOOD PRICE. WAS KEEPING IT FOR A RE-CHAMBER JOB, BUT I AM 73 NOW AND IT IS TIME TO DOWNSIZE.IF YOU ARE INTERESTED SEND ME A PM.

My vote, for a dedicated hunting gun, is the 7.5" barrel with scope.

Mart this is a little tough, since there is a few things to consider. For iron sights I really like the 5 1/2" barrel. But if I am going to scope one, I feel the 7 1/2" works a little better as far as balance. JMHO
Blued guns. I do not believe that any Blue 45s were made. Hamilton Bowen did some guns that he worked over 44 mags, to create the 45s for the 1917s he cataloged for awhile. Those blue guns look really good. Google ( 1917 Bowen ) and it should show up. I also think that Ruger went to the GP100 for the 357s instead of the Redhawks.

Correction on the prior post. They did make a 357 in the REDHAWK. SO far I have only been able to find it in a Stainless 7 1/2" Thanks Good luck if you proceed on this.

I HAVE SS 5 1/2 AND 71/2 INCH 357 RH's. I SHOOT THE 5 1/2 ONCE IN A WHILE, HAVE NEVER SHOT THE 7 1/2
