Best is relative. For maximum velocity I'd use H110 but for midrange loads, HS-6 gets the nod.
Rod, too.
Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

I like H-110 / WW296 for my heavy 44 Mag loads. I have been using it for over 35 years

I'll echo what's been said. I like W296 and H110. They've worked well for me with both hardcast and jacketed bullets.

I have used 2400 for yrs in 44 with jacketed 240?s. Initial comparison, it beat h110 in accuracy. I havnt went back to try again. I will one of these days if i get time. The 2400 shoots good though. I wouldnt have to.

Most here will say 110 or 296
For me 2400 is very hard to beat.
You can use std or mag primers but I like the mag primers better.

If it jams force it! If it breaks it needed replacing anyway.

I also have used "all three." Although in reality, 296 IS H-110; just labeled with a different number for marketing purposes.
I found out that the H-110 powders burn very clean whereas 2400 leaves a lot of "residue" behind. But it sounds like it doesn't affect accuracy! Maybe mag primers help this situation.
BTW if you want to load light loads, Unique is great.

Greg, your age is showing like mine. I started loading 44 years ago with WW296 for magnum loads, jacketed or cast, and Unique for reduced loads in magnum guns. Both worked great then and still do now. Never saw a need to experiment with all the new powders. I buy both of these in 8# kegs. The Unique lasts forever since it's loads are so small.

For the 44 Magnum 296/H110 is pretty hard to top. One other powder worth a look is 300MP. For Maximum 44 magnum loads these three would be the ones I would work with.

AA#9 can also work well close to the burning rate of 2400 I have not seen any 2400 in many years around here

Anyone using Ramshot Enforcer?
good reviews and seems to be in there with H110/WW296 as far as performance.
Like everyone else, H110/WW296 for all of my full house hunting loads.

As so many others have said, H110/W296 is hard to beat for top end loads. I've found Unique and A5744 to be good for reduced recoil loads.

H110/296 for higher velocity and energy. Unique/Universal for moderate and everyday loads. I'm finding that I really can do most of what I want with a heavy cast boolit at around 1000 fps. Could be that I'm getting mellow with time?
