Just wondering what bullets you guys use in your 22 caliber centerfires for target shooting. I'm interested in both lightweight bullets 55 grains and under for my 221 Fireball and heavier bullets for a 1:7" twist AR.

2 accurate bullets in my 14? .223........nosler 40gr bt and sierra 50gr blitz.

Sierra 55gr hpbt and 52gr hpbt match accurate in rifles. Dont think ive tried it in handgun

There is no pat answer on what is best, you'll need to test what shoots best in your gun. I've found the 50 gr Hodgdon v-max to work well in varous .223's and a .221, but some guns shoot it more accurately than others. You might find your 1-7 twist AR prefers a 75 gr.

My 218 Mashburn bee contender really preferred the 45 gr Sierra and was ho-hum with most other bullets.

Depending on twist it hard to beat the 52 and 69 gr SMKs

If it jams force it! If it breaks it needed replacing anyway.

Every gun is a lesson unto itself as to likes and dislikes in regards to bullets/powders. But, I have not found the .224 caliber to be excessively hard to please in any of the cartridges I have that shoot this caliber. So, I?ve had success in attaining groups of .25 inch and less with the following bullets.

52gr Nosler HPBT Match
55gr Nosler Ballistic Tip
60gr Hornady FBHP
60gr Sierra TMK
80gr Hornady A-Max
80gr Hornady ELD-X

I have, to be tried, in the near future:

52gr Remington FBHP Match
52gr Hornady ELD-Match
55gr Midway Dogtown FBHP

The 50 gn vmax as loaded by fiocchi shoot well for me in a 1/9 twist rem 700 and factory contender barrel @$0.40 a shot (sub moa). The 69 gn match kings work better in the 700 but don't stabilize in the contender.
All the vmax I've shot group well.

35gr Bergers shoot really out of my favourite varmint rifle.

A REM700 LVSF in 221 Fireball will print groups under 2/10''

Along with the Bergers l use AA1680/RP brass/Rp Benchrest primers

Another vote for the v-max. Ballistic tip?s have also shot consistently well in a range of catridges, but I?ve pretty well settled on the 55 gr v-max for general use.

Zee, i alo just bought some Hornady ELD match bullets and am excited to see how they shoot. I?m planning to use them in a 22 PPC. I normally enjoy prepping brass, but loading for a tight neck chamber has presented some new challenges.
