How do you like it in a pistol? What loads do you use for deer? This gun has a 14 inch barrel, what will the ballistics look like.

Wow, I didn't know CVA offered a 6.5. Everyone seems impressed by the quality of the Scout pistols. They ought to sell a bunch, given the current popularity of the Creedmoor.

Mule deer at 265 yards, 140 A-Max, and he went down immediately. Same with a couple of does. Mine is a 15.75" barrel. This is a light load, but it is accurate. Bullets that will work: NBT, Accu-Bonds, A-max, ELD-M, and ELD-X are bullets I have used for whitetail, mule deer, antelope, and a couple of elk

CVA has stopped making the Scout pistol and I read a few days ago that they only made a short special run in the 6.5 creedmoor so I jumped on this one.

You did well. I know it will be a shooter. I did not know that CVA ever offered anything bigger than the 243 in the Scout Pistol. I have a 260 Remington Encore which will be very comparable to the 6.5 Creedmoor Scout. It is a very impressive barrel. With a Rifle scope with target knobs and a Drop Chart you should be able to reach out and touch things rifle shooters will be impressed with.
I have always felt that CVA really messed up not offering a 260 or 6.5 Creedmoor, 7-08, 308, and 358 in the Scout. The 357 Magnum should have been a 357 Maximum also.
While I am on a "should have" roll, A quality wood grip, and a wood carbine forend would have been a big improvement also.
They got all the rest of it right. Good Trigger and Quality Construction, and a very good Quality Barrel.

I mentioned the 6.5 Scout to my local gun shop owner today, and found out he has 5 on order that should be in around weekend. He got in several 243 Scouts probably a month ago, and has sold them all already.
Now if CVA would make a limited run of 7-08's and 308's like they should have done to start with.

I dropped by Double R Pawn in Houston Missouri today. He has either 5 or 6 of the CVA Scouts now in stock, chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor. I found out something else that I did not know. The Barrel is threaded with a Muzzle Thread Protector provided. I am not sure what the thread size is yet. That might be important when getting a Muzzle Brake rounded up. I am sure the 6.5 Creedmoor will be much more pleasant to shoot with a good muzzle brake installed.

To give some reference - I got 2672 fps with Nosler's new NCH, 16 inch barrel, shooting Nosler factory 120 gr. BT ammo.

2340 fps with 140's...Very mild load with my Dominator. But it shoots great, and for the distances I will hunt at, I don't need more speed. I still have 1800 fps at 1/4 mile, which means the bullet would perform well out to 600 yards. I won't hunt game that far with it though. Will have a bolt rig in a month or two and I will have better data.

I got my CVA Scout V2 6.5 Creedmoor last week. I took it to the range to shoot it to just make sure everything functioned correctly before I put it up for next Christmas.
I did check the velocity shooting Winchester's Deer Season 125 grain factory load and was happy to see it was going 2567 fps. I think that will do very nicely for my deer hunting out to 200 yards.
What does everyone here think?
I will spend this year working with my CVA Scout V2 in 357 mag. I hope to kill a deer or two with it next season.

Thanks for the update. That load looks very good and likely gives a good idea of factory speeds with weights in that range. I've not given too much attention to the Creedmore, but it looks like a fantastic factory alternative for a 6.5mm handgun. It looks ideal for covering a lot of light and medium hunting situations. Thanks again.

I also have a Scout V2 6.5 CM ordered and should be here any day now! From all I've read you can figure 200 - 300 fps less in the 14inch barrel. I'm basing this on an article I read which reported the velocity loss by the inch from 27 to 16 inches. Shooting 120 grain bullets showed a loss of 233 fps and shooting 140 grainers showed a loss of 153. These figures may be a little off due my terrible memory but I think they are close. Remember you will still lose a little from 16 inches to 14 inches also.

My local dealer still has a couple in stock. He flooded the local market with the 243 version that came in before the 6.5's.
An Evolution Gun Works Scope Base is an improvement to the basic Scout. The factory Triggers have been very good on everyone of them I have handled. Probably on par with an Encore or G2 with a trigger job. They are Encore tough. I have a Scout in 357 Maximum as well as the Optima V2 muzzle loader pistol. Both are shooters. Our Club Secretary and his son both have the 243 version of the Scout. Both of them drive tacks. The only negative is the cheap plastic grip and forend they come with.

I have the ..243 version and really like how it shoots. But, with a 10T barrel, I can only shoot up to 85gr bullets.
Thinking the 6.5 would get me up to 140gr bullets with its 8T barrel and carry on where the .243 version drops.

I have the 243 version and it seems to shoot 100 grain factory Federal fine. I also have the 6.5CM and if I'm not mistaken both barrels are 1 in 10 twist. I got some good advice from people on this forum that have much more experience than I do and they advised I shoot 130 grain bullets or lighter in the 6.5. I shot Winchester 125s in it with good results. Does anyone know for certain what twist these barrels are? I was thinking I saw on the CVA website that both were 1 in 10?

I called CVA and they said 1-8T for the 6.5 CM.
1-10T for the .243 win. The only heavy bullets I have for the .233 Win are 105gn A-Max and they shot like crap in the CVA. Too long for the twist, I assume.

That's great news! I've got some 140 factory loads I will try in mine. For the money I don't think a person can go wrong on the CVAs unless you're needing a switch barrel. Deer, coyote, and groundhogs are what I wanted mine for. I've got other guns for small game. I've got an Optima BP pistol for ML season also. Thanks for the info. You guys on here are always helpful and I appreciate it.

Artemis444......I've got a 2x6 scope and a Little Bastard APA brake on mine. No noticeable recoil with 125 grain Win. factory loads. The brake does create a lot of noise though. I'm going to try some Rem. 140 CLs next chance I get. Hinterland Outfitters still had a few in stock about a week ago.

Ernie.....I haven't figured out how to post photos on the forum. Actually, I haven't really been measuring groups and keeping notes on loads, etc. I have just had a chance to shoot a few rounds and sight the scope in and let a couple friends shoot it. When I have time to test a few loads and compare them I will try to give more info. I'm planning on hunting deer with it in Nov. and hopefully will have a hunting report then.

Although I like the CLs I do not like Remington ammo. I would rather roll my own. I have never found Remington Factory fodder to be that accurate. I am with Ernie... I would like to see some field reports

Guys I'm almost 68 years young and have never reloaded a bottle neck round. I have and do reload for 44 mag/spl, 357mag/38spl, 40 S&W, 45acp, 45LC, and 9mm. I have owned 500 S&W, 460S&W, 357 max, 223, and 45/70 in handguns but not reloaded for them. I had Contenders and and an XP-100 in the past but got into shooting IDPA, PPC, and Bowling Pin Shoots for a number of years and hunted with rifles. Last year before deer season I decided I was going handgun only! I used a CVA Optima pistol and scored on a doe in the ML season and killed a small buck and a doe with my 4in. N Frame S&W 44mag. I had killed groundhogs, crows, fox, and other small game, including squirrels, with a handgun but never a deer. I bought a CVA Scout handgun in 243 and a 6.5 CM to give me more range this year during deer season. I guess what I'm trying to say is, I need to be listening to you guys concerning hunting and reloading instead of the other way around.

I have wanted to try handgun hunting for a while so I purchased one of these little jewels the other day. Out of curiosity, what is everyone using for a scope/RDS?
