Looking for a scope for my super blackhawk hunter. I was thinking between Simons pro hunter 2-6 x32 , Nikon force xr 2x/or 2.5 x8 ,or Burris 2x20. Has anyone tried these out on that gun? Also I was hoping to use the rings that came with the gun but was maybe thinking of getting a higher mount if needed.

Not apples to apples, but i have a 2x20 Burris mounted on a 41 mag Redhawk and a 2-8 Weaver on a 45 colt Redhawk and both scopes work with the standard rings, with the rear sight removed.

While the older Simmons had a great reputation for being nearly recoil-proof, I?m not sure current production models are in the same class. If you haven?t yet, check out the Weaver 2-8. It offers a lot of value for the money. Shop around and they can be found for just over $200.

I have the Ruger Blackhawk Hunting in 45 Long Colt and 44 Mag. I have a 2x6 Simmons on the 45 Long Colt and a Leupold 2x on my 44 Mag. Both have done well the last 10 years

I had a Leupold 2X mounted on my .44 Super Blackhawk Hunter with the standard rings shipped with the gun. I was able to zero the iron sights and the scope just cleared the top of the rear sight. The size and weight of the 2X worked great on this gun for targets up to 75 yards.

I thave a 45 Colt Bisley Hunter, went with the 2X Weaver and has held zero with some pretty stiff loads with 340 grain bullets for over 5 years. I chose it because like to hunt with the open sights but can't see them first and last light, so the Weaver 2X was chosen because it was the first one that set between the front and rear sight.

This allowed me to zero my open sights and hunt mid morning to early evening with open sights, and have the scope on for early and late hunting hours. I would like to look for another scope though as the weaver has a very short eye relief requires elbows to bent more than I like for full field of view. Other than that is a descent setup.

I would stay away from the 2x Burris. All of the newer ones I have had the eye piece fell off.
2x Leupold is the best for sure.
Behind that the Weaver and Nikon would be next.
I had a 2x Trophy on mine if they still made that scope it would be perfect for the money.

If it jams force it! If it breaks it needed replacing anyway.

I have a Weaver 2.5-8X on my Encore and a Weaver 2X on my SBHH. I like both and would buy either again.

Thanks guys for the Intel
I checked out a few at cabelas and was surprised that the burris 2- 7 x was the clearest at all variables. Even the leuapold 2- 8 was hard for me to pic up at all variables. The cabelas six shooter is junk lol what a joke. The nikon was ok but in the end Burris won out. However I still got my eye out for the leupold 2 x at gun shows. Cant wait to test out my new toy !

Wildcatter, how well does your scope hold zero taking it on and off like that? Do you remove/replace it in the field? Do you torque it the same every time? Just curious.
