I just purchased through GB a S&W model 647 .17hmr and would like to change out the grips when it arrives. I know it is a K frame but would it be a round butt or a square but. Thank you for your help.

Almost positive its a Round butt. S&W also made a PC version with a 12'' barrel in 17HMR. A forum members has one..

The 17HMR is probably the ''Most Fun'' varmint ctg Hornady ever created. l took it to 0regon in 2002 for ground squirrels. l was shooting it in a Ruger77-17hmr bolt rifle tho. Avg shot was 50-150yds.. Actually shot some in the SNOW!! Twas late April when a surprise storm hit the Goose Lake 0re/Cali area. Visualize a RED trail 6-6ft long on Snow White ground.. 17HMR is a great ctg for those Coke can size critters.. ENJOY..

I know nothing about the S&W, but the 17 hmr is a ton of fun! Congratulations! Post some stories and experiences with it.

Thanks for the help fellas. I may have paid a bit much for it but I have been wanting one for quite a while, will probably use it when calling coons. One of those Performance Center models could probably just ugly a coon to death.

Longhunter,

Enjoy! I have the same gun I picked up about 8 years ago - promptly had a trigger job done on it and scoped it with a 4X Leupold. Fun gun and good warmup practice for the big bores prior to hunting season!

Don't worry, I've paid too much for something on my list more than once. I call it the "want tax." Nice new toy!
