Heard a rumour that Ruger has discontinued the Ruger .480. Anyone have any info on what's going on?

Ruger is having a problem with the extractor and have stop production till problem is corrected. This is what I was told from the customer service rep.

If they would have chambered the 480 Ruger in a 5-shot Super Black Hawk Hunter this wouldn't have been an issue. I still think this would be the better option for Ruger, but this is just my opinion. If John Linebaugh can make them shoot so can Ruger.

I would be all over that one if it ever appeared, as long as it were in a Bisley frame. I was thinking of getting a SRH, but not a big D/A fan, for the .480 cartridge. I can't afford $1,500 for a custom job. Does this problem affect the earlier models as well, a recall? Rod.
Rod, too.
Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

I wonder is this is related to the previous problem re: high pressure ammo and the characteristics of Carpenter steel.

This is an interesting thread. I have about 500 rounds thru my 480 and not even a hick-up. I have not pushed the reloads to the red zone, but stiff enough, and experienced no extraction problems. If you guys hear more please post.

I understand the rough extraction problem was pretty common with the early Hornady Ammo in both .480 Ruger and .480 Casull. There was a write up on the extraction problem that to the best of my memory was written by Brian Pearce and appeared in either Rifle or Handloader a couple of years back. I personally experienced it in my .480 with the Hornady ammo.
