Thanks Max for the recommendation of using power pistol with cutting edge bullets a few months ago!,I was loading some .40 S&W with it yesterday and decided since I have it in the hopper might as well try it with some 240 grain raptors in my .454.WOW is all I can say! After almost giving up on the copper with this I hit the jackpot!1610 fps and 1-3/4 inch groups (3shots) at 100 yds.I might tinker with the weight a little-18 grains but this is it!! also very clean burning!!,thanks again and happy new year to everybody!

BIZZMO: I DON'TNOW MUCH ABOUT EITHER YOUR BULLET OR YOUR POWDER, BUT I AM THINKING THAT YOU SHUD BE ABLE TO EASILY GET 1,800fps WITH A 240gr MONOLITHIC IN A FA 454.
"ADAPT OR DIE". I USE ALL CAPS, NOT BECAUSE I AM YELLING, BUT BECAUSE IT IS AN OLD HABIT FROM MY ARMY DAYS, PLUS IT IS EASIER TO TYPE AND READ.

These things are .991 long so they don't leave much room for powder .I'm going to tinker with the charge a little but if I don't get any substantial improvement I'll just take the accuracy and be happy

1600 is still moving along pretty good. That should take care of anything that walks in the lower 48.
It's a shame you can't use lead. I feel bad for you guys.

wow, those are spendy! Thats some great accuracy though! BIZZMO, Have you tried the Barnes XPBs in your 454? They have added a lot of new load data for the 454 and other calibers. more powder choices. I have had pretty good accuracy when I shot them, and they are $17.99 a box of 20 which isn't that bad for a "premium" bullet. I killed a mule deer buck a few years back with them and they performed very well. only reason he needed a finisher was my first shot was low and forward. excellent wound channels though.

You bet! and when it's all said and done you realize this state has been so poorly managed that there's not much here to hunt any way,so you get your copper bullet load to shoot and then you think-FOR WHAT??Just my$.02

BB, I didn't see your post before I went off,I tried the barnes with h110 and couldn't get very good accuracy at 100 yds ,it was pretty good at 50 though,I still have some so my next project is to try them with power pistol. The reason why I went with theC.E.B.is they gave me the better accuracy of the two with h110.

ah gotcha. I had pretty good results with Accurate #7. not sure what I was getting for velocities though.
Let us know if you try the XPBs with Power Pistol, I would be curious what your results are

Hmmmm, Alliant lists a max load of 11.0 grains of PP with a 270-grain bullet. Speer lists a max of 15.0 grains with their 250-grain bullet. The OP?s 18 grain load might be a bit excessive.....
.
Based on total trigger pull weight, my trigger finger has lifted well over 200 tons....

I have data from Cutting Edge Bullets for their 240 grain raptors showing a max load for power pistol being 18.9 grains @ 58000 psi with a M.V. of 1761 fps from a 7.5 inch barrel also from load data .com showing max load of 18.0 with aM.V. of 1569 fps, no pressure data but a caution that this is for a freedom arms model 83. I went up to 18.5 and had no pressure signs but lost the accuracy I was after. So I'll stick with 18.0

BB-I just tested the 250 grain barnes xpb with power pistol and it did not shoot well,2 5 shot groups @100 yds both+4 inch groups(about the same as I was getting with H110) and velocity was very erratic 1573-1654 fps and noticeably more recoil.I used 17.5 grains instead or 18 because of the length of the barnes over the C.E.B.

Excellent! Glad they are working out for you! They are definitely among the most accurate bullets I have ever used.
