How many of you have been bitten by the 500 JRH bug?

I?ve yet to shoot mine. Been focusing on my 475 Linebaugh all fall to take my first big game animal with a revolver.

AFTER THE DEER SEASON I AM PLANNING TO REPORT ON A BOVINE KILL WITH A BRR 8 INCH BISLEY IN 500JRH, AND THINKING OF TAKING IT ON A POSSIBLE ALASKAN BLACK BEAR HUNT IN MAY/JUNE. HAVE A JRH BUILT 500JRH ON A RUGER BISLEY BUT HAVE ONLY GIVEN IT RANGE TIME AND NO FIELD CARRY/WORK YET.

"ADAPT OR DIE". I USE ALL CAPS, NOT BECAUSE I AM YELLING, BUT BECAUSE IT IS AN OLD HABIT FROM MY ARMY DAYS, PLUS IT IS EASIER TO TYPE AND READ.

I have a BFR in 500 JRH and love it. Got a buffalo hunt in the planning stages for this year that I hope to use it on. I have been doing work ups and finally have it the way I want it. Have a Ultradot sitting on top that is working great and am shooting groups that I never thought I could out of a revolver at both 50 and 100 yards.

I think I've had at least on in one form or another for about 10 years. It's a GREAT cartridge and I believe the best .50 caliber cartridge that fits in a "normally" sized revolver. I currently have two 5 1/2-inch BFRs in .500 JRH. I have killed a number of whitetail, hogs, water buffalo, Cape buffalo with one and it hits hard.

Yes, I almost bought one but for me, until brass becomes available and affordable, I'll pass. I think brass availability hurts it more than anything else, but otherwise, it's a great cartridge.

Wondering about recoil on the 900 fps factory load? My 460 ain't bad but those BFR'S are a lot lighter.I've shot 500 Smith & Wesson some and that's about all I wanted in recoil.

I have loaded up TrailBoss loads that run around 900fps and they are very manageable out of my BFR. Significantly less recoil than the full house loads with H110. Plus, I have found them to be pretty accurate as well. Just my 2 cents.

They don't kick hard at all and the Bisley grip does a good job at recoil mitigation.

While I haven't run any top level loads out of my 500 JRH BFR yet, I have found the recoil to be surprisingly manageable. Substantial but not sharp or hard to control.

Per my calibrated palm recoil-o-meter 440gr bullets @ ~1175fps feel like 2-3x the recoil pulse of a top end 44 mag load but more of a push than a violent jerk. You definitely need to hang on but the bisley grip distributes the recoil very well.

I'm sure that a case full of H110 @ 1400fps will be more attention grabbing the JRH does not need to be run that hot to hit very hard.

No, it doesn?t, but it sure is fun!!!

I had a full build done on a Ruger Super Blackhawk by Jack R. Huntington (creator of the 500 JRH in case there are those who don?t know what JRH stands for.) and absolutely loved it. I will have another one in the near future. Ran it light a few times, but much preferred the full house H110 loads.

I heard somebody say once that shooting a gun that doesn't recoil is like sleeping with a woman who just lays there.

I love my .22's and I don't have to chase them around or hang on too tight to keep them from getting away! Or hitting me up side the head when I do something wrong.

I know, but the uncertainty makes them fun! LOL!

Arthritis has lowered my fun meter somewhat to where I have a few calibers that are no damn fun anymore. The 500 would be one of those calibers. 44 specials from my 5 1/2 in flat top at 900+ - make my hands ache for a couple of days afterward. MANS GOT TO KNOW HIS LIMITATIONS! Don't have to like em, just know em.
