With deer season over and duck season nearly there, it's time to put the pressure on some coyotes. I'll primarily be hunting with my AR-15, but I'll have an Encore pistol or revolver as a backup.
Do any of you guys hunt coyotes with handguns? Do you have a specific handgun you use for it?

I have used a number of XP-100's to kill coyotes, but not one dedicated XP.

i've used a contender in 223 but nothing dedicated. Apparently the pelts are worth a good bit right now. The 50g vmax left a big hole on the back side and would be frowned upon by serious pelt hunters.

Yes, several years back I setup an 15 inch Encore with arrestor brake chambered in 257 AI for dual purpose use on coyote and deer.

I have three .357's set up specifically for yotes, a GP100 a Blackhawk and a Smith 686. I have pretty much stopped hunting with rifles except squirrels and more often than not I hunt those with a handgun also.

I have a few handguns and a rifle er two that are awesome for the job. I just dont hunt lol. I hunted with some buddies calling several yrs ago one or two seasons. I used my 15? 6BR. But.....others got the shot op by luck. Ive killed one coyote by opportunity here on the farm. I used my ott 6x47 contender with a sierra 75gr hp. Perfect coyote cartridge imo.
Have a few other smal 6?s such as 6x45, 6tcu etc along with a 223 contender and xbolt rifle. Plenty of choices and any one of them could be put to duty and be good at it. My future SIL tries to get me to go sometimes. He kills a few. I bought him a swagger bipod for Christmas. If u use a rifle, its a dandy.
Kentucky….no place like home.

I have an XP100 in 222 Rem Mag, Shilen bull 15" barrel shooting 55 or 60 grain Sierra Flat base, hollow point bullets with Burris 3x12 BP. It is a yote and prairie dog buster out to 400 yards. Very stable and a 1.5 lb. trigger. Mike
