My mod. 29 44 mag has an Ultra Dot red dot sight on it. For the critters I hunt (moose, black bear)& the critters that might hunt me (brown bear) it's quick & offers all the magnification (0) I need at the ranges I will use it.
On my Encores/Contenders mostly 2-7 or 2.5-8 so I'm good for anything. Usually carry them set to around 3 power in brushy areas.

For the light kicking varmint calibers I prefer rifles scopes in the 16X range. The long range medium calibers usually have 3 to 12 Burris scopes, with a 2.5 to 8 Leupold on my XP in 35 Rem. The revolvers ware 2 and 4 power Leupold scopes. It took a little practice to get quick target acquisition with the 4X.

For my Rugers, I have fallen in love with the Ragged Hole. (No, not my X-Wife) It's faster that a dot and so much nicer to carry.

My 45/70 and .357 Max 'Tenders are topped with 1.25-4's cause I don't need to see much further than that, a 2x would do as well.

My .22 Mag and 7-30 Waters Hunter have 3-9x rifle scopes to get a better sight picture.

My HMR and Hornet wear 6.5-20x50mm varmint rifle scopes so I can see the little critters.

My 12" .44 Mag has a Red/Green Dot, I prefer the green myself.

Every sight(s) for any purpose

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

I like an easy carrying gun and now I use nothing but custom blackhawks so I have come to like the gold bead front with a "V" notch rear. I did just mount a bushnell trophy red dot on my 410 GNR to take advantage of its extended range but I'm not sure if I'll leave it on or not, I'm currently looking for a leupold FXII to try on it although the red dot is giving me good accuracy at 100yds. Just as a side note the bushnell is a tough sight for the money this one was mounted on my BFR in 45-70 before I sold it a couple of years ago.

I won't be wronged. I won't be insulted. I won't be laid a-hand on. I don't do these things to other people, and I require the same from them. John Wayne-The Shootist

I hunt with a .460 which has pretty heavy recoil. Therefore, I go with the Aimpoint 9000 (red dot). The only downfall of this scope is low-light situations--I like to hunt until "dark-thirty"!
