I have been handgun hunting for almost 30 years now using Contenders, Encores, BFR's but have wanted a custom bolt or different type of single shot. Have waited years, but it looks like the MOA maximum is never coming back, and all of the Nosler pistols I see online are in calibers I don't want. Any suggestions on who can make something that I can custom build to what I want? Want something extremely accurate and reliable. This would be used for deer, bear and maybe elk if I get lucky enough to to draw a tag. Thinking 308 Win Thank you

When I was in your position about 2 years ago, I spoke with Ernie. Ernie is on this forum and the Specialty Pistol forum as well as others. He doesn't build them but has lots of knowledge about them. I have his number if you want to send me an email and I'll give it to you. Even though Ernie gives out his number readily on the net, I don't feel right doing it for him.

After he gave me some guidance, I built a rear grip 20 Vartarg which is my favorite. Later I built a center grip 223. I use both for prairie dogs. I used Remeage barrels for both builds on Rem. 700 actions.

Make contact with Ernie, he will not lead you astray.

Here’s the dude that built mine https://www.awtllc.net/
Advanced weapons technology in russell ky. He does long range rifles, gives classes in that, and some unreal 1911s etc etc. Of course ernie knows several out west. I like having one right here at home. Im just not rich like ernie lol.

Kentucky….no place like home.

Might consider finding a Savage Striker if you are on a budget. Otherwise get with Ernie on a XTP build

If it jams force it! If it breaks it needed replacing anyway.

Be glad to chat with you.
FWIW I will be moving a center-grip 308 Winchester XP-100 that has a laminated stock, and a fluted barrel in the near future.
I have two now, and the one that Chris built me (Dirty Thirty), is also a loaner XP-100 for WY-SHOT is a keeper, even I didn't have that shoot.

As did I. I really appreciate you taking the time to talk with me. I definitely learned alot, and can see this becoming a new hobby, and already looking around for places that I can get some distance to practice

The 308 Winchester Nosler M48's seem to be scarce as hens teeth. When I started looking at Nosler M48's the 308 Win was the First Choice. None were to be found at that time.
My second choice was a 7-08. I did locate a 7-08 M48 for sale, however at the same time I located a new M48 in 6.5CM that was $250 cheaper on the opening bid. I ended up buying it for the opening bid.
I am a huge fan of the M48, but a well built Custom XP100 is a great find also.

Good luck finding exactly what you want.

I know a guy Mr. Handgunhuntr… he’s not easy to deal with and doesn’t shut up about guns or much else…

We’ll stretch the legs on that one you got headed your way… The backyard range only goes to 100 meters from the deck! we need to head to the farm though for out to 600 (yeah I know but that’s far for Pennsylvania folks!)…. Just got to get some corn down.
