hey Rupe, i have a model 686 and I have it scoped.

Mine is a little older so I had to send it to S&W to get it drilled for a scope mount. The grips are big on this one so it fills my hand up. If you are looking at a 6 inch hunting gun I can recomend this one. the barrel length helps manage the recoil and the 38's shoot like 22s. If you scope the gun, I don't see how you would use it in a CCW scenario. but the one I own was dead on accurate with the iron sites as well. So I suppose you could use it without a scope until you can afford a nice ladysmith or other J frame for CCW. Nobody really talks about it, but I recommend hammerless double actions for women who want to carry in a purse or pocket since the hammer won't catch on anything when they have to pull it out. you get the best of both worlds. the reliability of a revolver and no hammer to hang up. anyway for what it's worth I hope it helps. And congrats on your SBH, I was looking for one of those when the S&W fell into my lap. The owner made me an offer and I could not refuse the price so I am still lookign for my SBH.

My Dad has that same handgun. I think I only have shot it one or twice. I think it is the only revolver that he owns!

I remember when the 686 first came out. Our range officer ran down and bought one. It shot really well, him and I shot together off duty, that was back when auto's were just starting to show up on police dept. It was much better then the 66's were, not that the 66's were bad, but the 686 was a much heavier duty gun.

About 3 years ago I found a 586 (I think that's the right model #) with the 8 3/8" barrle and the sillywet sights. It was like new. I could not tell it was fired. The blueing was deep and dark with a shine you could comb your hair in. The price was really good. I went back a week later with cash in hand and it was gone. Such is life.

I can shoot straight and it's more like a shuffle then a run when you have to use a cane. lol So it's more of a side to side like your trying to hit a swinging target. LOL And I really doubt I could break an hour for the mile and half gimp I mean run.

Good spelling you get an "A" but I got a NEW GUN! Yes I got it and I have shot everything in the front room now. I put the Red dot scope on it and repeted the above. What a nice handgun. The trigger feels really good for a new gun. Tiny bit of creeping of course. But all in all it is a typical Ruger and it's awesome of course. I will post pictures as soon as Mrs. Rupe figures out and teachs me how to post them. Now I can't wait to shoot it.

Now you just need to fix your sign off!
