15" is OK for the Encore and XP for general pupose shooting/hunting for me. I would like to get a few specialized barrels for long range target shooting and hunting BUT NY law will not allow a handgun to have a barrel length over 16". So there goes my long barreled Striker in 260 Remington. If I could have a long barrel 18" would be right in the ball park maybe 19-20" all inclusive if there was a brake on the barrel.

14 to 15 inches in a non-bolt gun. XP's, I really don't have a limit but it would be somewhere in that neighborhood.

Same as GAry...14-15" for T/C's, 7.5" for revolvers and bolt guns are kinda unlimited.

On center-grips I am at ease with longer barrels than rear grips. So 15" plus for the bolt (and rotary cannon) guns and for T/C's a 10"-12" better for carry with 14" being the most I will use on the breakers. On revolvers 7-1/2" seems to handle and perform the best for me.
Rod, too.
Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

I like the old Super 16 length and contour. What I like about that length is that I can convert the handgun into a carbine if needed. Living in Southern New England can be a hassle at times. You cannot hunt with a handgun in Rhode Island but you can use a carbine for certain game. I can hunt deer on private land in Connecticut with a 16" 45-70 carbine but not if it is a handgun. So I want my barrels to do double duty if need be.

BB, my barrel length (which is longer more than most) is because of multi-tasking as well. The LR shooting and varminting is a key factor for me.

12" is my favorite length for contender barrels......have a couple of competitor barrels that are 16"......that would be too long with about any other action type.......I do have a 16" barreled XP and it's a bit too long.....
In my opinion, if the barrel is over 16" long, it's a stockless rifle pretending to be a handgun.....so, what's the point..........but that's just my opinion......
