It's funny how you can read all these statements about what won't work on the internet, you try it and find that often what won't work, works great. I'd read WFN's can't shoot accurately below 1200 fps, and I'm sure the internet would say a .480 can't stabalize a 460 gr bullet. Yet in my 480 SRH I was getting 1" groups at 50 yds with a 460 gr WFN crossing the chrono at 1050 fps. I sent some of them to a fellow 480 shooter who loaded them up to 1100 fps in his 480 and took them to the linebaugh seminar in ~2004. In the penetration tests he got 38" penetration in wet newsprint (bullet on the left) and 12" of newsprint and 2+" of bone (bullet on the right) He did say when he tested at extended ranges they started to fly wild at about 175 yds. Still, not bad for something the experts say won't work. Bullets were cast from straight ww's and dropped from the mold into a 5 gal bucket full of water to quench.

Hello, Im Steve and Im new to site. I live in north Alabama. Ive been shooting for 30yrs and reloading for 20-25yrs now. I have a serious interest in revolvers, mostly single actions but I do enjoy some DAs. Ive been handgun hunting off and on for a few years. This year I set a personal goal as to take a coyote with my SA revolvers. That has already been met by 2 coyotes since the start of the year. The first was 45yds with a 5 1/2? 44spl Ruger Flat Top and the 2nd was 49yds with a 45 colt Bisley Hunter.

I spent part of my childhood in south Florida and the brother and I moved to north Alabama in 1988. He left after college and I stuck around. Honestly, I cant really say where Im from.....lol I am an Ohio transplant originally but I have no memory of ever living there. Dad was in the Airforce so we moved a little, but not like the typical military family.

Hi, my name is Rob, born, raised, live and work in New York. I started handgun hunting in the mid 90's with 629, then John Linebaugh built a 45 for me and then a FA 454 topped with a 2x Leupold. Most recently I've been carrying a Glock 20, 10mm with a RMR on top. I did use a T/C Contender for a bit but liked big bore single too much. Elmer Keiths writings really hit home with me. I started handloading then because couldn't buy any warm 45 loads and 454's were very expensive and only available from FA. Most of my hunting is upstate NY consisting of whitetails and bear, but I have made it to Alaska for Caribou and I'd like to plan a cougar hunt in the not too distant future. I belonged to HHI and couldn't wait to read the next issue of The Sixgunner with great stuff from Dr. Larry Rogers "The Hitman", John Taffin and everyone's experiences. I haven't done much handgun hunting in the past 10 years or so, life got in the way. Now I got bit by the bug again, badly. So much so I just ordered a BFR in 500 Linebaugh to get back on track. So, if anyone has any good loads they'd like to share...I'd really be interested. Thanks and glad to be here!

I cast some 325 WFN quenched in a bucket of water and use them in my 45 LC Blackhawk, they are only 1150 fps, and they will shoot ragged groups at 25 yards when I do my part. They go through pig shoulders like hot butter. Eric.

I made my first post in the forum "To all Lurkers". Just checking in, my name is Benajah and I from Maine. Love hunting with my handguns, not as good as most of you but I do what I can. I'm a reloader, Army Infantryman vet, love the outdoors. Avid bass fisherman. I hunt with a Ruger 22/45, Ruger single ten and T/C contender .410 14" pistol for small game. For big game I use a S&W M29-3 8 3/8" and a smith 629 5". That's just about it, hello and hopefully I'll be posting some new successful hunts.

Hi guys. I'm David: Husband, Dad of 3 daughters (29,27,23) better than I deserve, and help my boss push electrons around in a controlled manner.
I purchased 2 Magnum Research Lone Eagle barrels Chrome & Black in 7mm-08 and 1 stock around 1995. The Black LE received the stock and JD Jones (SSK Industries) spec'd parallax free @ 100yds Simmons 2.5-7x32. Will soon be laying the Chrome LE into a stock I just purchased today on gunbrokerdotcom. Going to need your input/help on a nice variable hunting scope for it.

Howdy from Winchester, Wyoming. I should?ve joined this forum years ago, but, have been away from Handgun Hunting for almost 30 years. Trying to get back into handgun hunting, hoping to get a deer or elk, or both, this year with my S&W 460 XVR (400 grain hard cast bullets).
I started hunting at around age 5 ( following my Dad and relatives thru the woods of Central-Louisiana). First centerfire rifle (Win. Model 88 in .308), at age 14....started handloading soon after ( Lee Loader kit), first centerfire handgun at age 16 (S&W Model 28), started handloading immediately. Started casting my own bullets at around age 18.
Took an antelope and a bear in the late 1980?s with my S&W 629 (cast bullets)....but put my handgun away, and went 100% rifle in the late ?80?s!
Many years ago I did some long distance running, raced motorcycles, and a couple of years dirt track cars (till I went broke).
My wife and I hunt, fish (a little), RV, and work too hard around our place. Collectively, we have 13 grandkids and 4 great grandkids! memtb

Hello, I?ve been off from this site for several years and now that I am retired for a year and a half, I?m able to get back here and learn and share with you folks. I currently have my old T/C Contender in 41 mag. Purchased in 1978, and Ruger SRH in 41 mag. and a Ruger GP100 in 357 mag. Since I have retired I?m able to hunt more and look forward to hunting MORE with a handgun. Keith

Hey. My name is Randy. Just joined Handgun Hunter, so I'm new to the site. Been hunting with Handguns since mid 1980's in PA. Started with Dan Wesson 357 Mag. but my latest favorite is Ruger SB Hunter Bisley 44 Mag. with Burris Redot. Reload my own rounds. Love to hunt, shoot targets, hike, and manage some land I have here in PA. Would love to hunt deer in Texas sometime soon. I'm retired a few years now and am enjoying the time I have to hunt. I served in the U.S. Army stationed in Alaska. Loved it! There's just a little bit about me.
Thanks.
Thank You.

I?ve been off the site for about 2 years. Work threw me some curveballs about 2.5 years ago and moved me to Richmond, Va from my home in SC. About 2 years ago I thought I would retire early and move to Saint Maarten for a laid back ?retirement? and I sold most of my guns. That island got hammered by a hurricane before departure. Well I stayed in VA so my youngest son could finish HS and get a good start in college. Anyone in or around VA looking for someone to shoot or go hunting with let me know. My preferred caliber is a 500L or 22WMR.

Hello from Texas, my name is Don. I?m mostly a deer, hog, and antelope hunter. Did it with rifle, bow and handgun, but when I got heavy into bow hunting, I kinda let the handgun hunting slide. Well, long story short, I?m taking a new interest in handgun hunting and I hope to have some stuff to share in the future.

Hello from North East Louisiana. Got into Handgun Hunting In the early 80s with squirrel hunting (Contender/22 Mag). Favorites are Rugers and Contenders. Deer and Squirrel hunting are my favorites. Also love to plink, nothing quit as satisfying as filling a tin can full of holes. Enjoy reading the stories and pics.

Hi all, My name is Clark, and I live in southern Colorado. Enjoy shooting, and hunting with, my big-bore handguns, which include a Ruger original Vaquero Bisley .45 Colt, a Freedom Arms .454 Casull, a Ruger Super Redhawk .480 Ruger, and a Ruger Super Blackhawk .480 Ruger. Have enjoyed Whitworth's posts here and on other sites, as well as his great videos and writings.

Good evening everyone, my name is Matt. I live in Central Florida. I am new to the handgun hunting discipline, this year being my first. It started with my love affair with the 45 Colt as a cartridge and developed into my new obsession. I have a Ruger SBH Bisley, topped with a Holosun 403c, chambered in you guessed it, 45 Colt! I plan on carrying it in the field this year for both deer and hogs.
I have very much enjoyed reading through these threads as an anon, so I figured it was time to actually sign up!
