I have a question for everyone. i will be going to far northern Alberta this fall elk hunting and since i cannot bring a handgun to hunt them, i picked up a 24inch barrel in .375JDJ. Now, i use my 12 inch barrel 375JDJ all the time and is one of my favorite rounds. I reload and my question is can I use the same load for the rifle barrel as i do in my pistol barrel? i cannot seem to find any data specific to the rifle barrel???

thanks!

in my 223 tender and my ruger r---- so i would try it and the
longer barrel should handle it i think.

Of course you can use the same load but if you're close to the max pressure with handloads it's wise to back off 10% and work up to the max for the rifle barrel.

im not real up todate on places but if you want to use your hand gun maybe thers some place thats all most as good

we the better half and i looked in to going to canada for a week for me to do a hunt...
but i wanted to use a handgun... the outfitters said NO!!!
so i was going to use a 16'' barrel with the colasable stock witch is alowed but with a pistol scope...

but from the numbers im geting for a different outfitter... i might be going to montana for 2 animals and 9 days of hunting for the same price as a week in canada....

wild thing is a few weeks back i was watching the mand channel...
some outfitter was packing a S&w 44 mag in a holster as back up and they were in canada

You can not absolutely take a handgun into Canada. The collapsible stock thing is at best questionable. Personally, I wouldn't think of trying to get away with it in Canada.

My Hornady book has reloading info for the 708 in a 15 and 24 in barrel. The pistol loads list less powder than the rifle. It makes sense because the rifle has the capability of utilizing more powder. I would say you should be able to use your pistol rounds in your rifle with out any problems. I am guess-ta-mating that you will probably get 300-400 fps more out of your ammo in your rifle.

When I started loading ammo for both my rifle and my pistol I made sure that there was a visible difference in the loads. I load the pistol with a 162 SST, which has a really nice and pretty red tip. In the rifle I load a 139 SPBT. In an article for the 353 Casull , the author suggested putting fingernail polish or primer sealant on the cases so one wouldn’t shoot them in their 357 Mag’s.
