Howdy Gents, My name is Kenneth, born and raised in Iowa but have been up in the great white north (AK) for 15yrs now. Was out in the western coastal "bush" most of it but just moved into the big city of Anchorage. Been packin smith and ruger wheel guns for about 30 yrs, but mostly for the two legged varmints I run into on the job. Favorite airplane gun and back up for my aught six is a 5.5 redhawk 44 with toasty 300 XTPs. In wintertime when ole brownie is sleepin, I mostly carry a 3 screw 357. Trying to get a line on a black bear this spring, if anyone has a favorite huntin load that shot well out of the redhwk 5.5 I'd appreciate the recipe...Looks like a good site, thanks. keb

My name is Dave and i've been blessed to have been able to live and hunt in a few different states in my 54 years. Started out with bow and handguns in the 70's but got out of it and stayed with big bore rifles for a few years. Went back to bow and pistols 8 years ago. Hooked on Tenders

I am a heavy equpment operator by trade which usually gives me time off for hunting and winters for chasing coyotes. I have 2 sons 23 and 17 years old that love to shoot and the youngest is my hunting partner till he gets tired of the old man. Glad to be here. Thanks, Dave

Hi, from Wyoming. Been handgun hunting for almost 30 years. Started with the 30 Herret and presently using the Savage Strikers in 300 WSM and 6.5 x 284. Also keep a S & W 29 on me for close range.

Also do flyfishing and wildlife photography.

Welcome to the site Keith. You can learn alot from this site. Handgun hunting is more fun then any other type of hunting in my book. I've hunted with rifle, muzzle loader, archery and now I have settled on Handgun hunting to be my prefered method of taking animals.

Hey guys, my name is Larry and I am from Virginia. Originally I am from NJ and glad I left in 1966. Spent 26 yrs. in the AF and retired in the Hampton Roads section of the state. I am also retired from law enforcement (15 yrs) and love to hunt, fish, shoot and reload -- oh yeah and some golfing.

I am an active LEO firearms instructor and enjoy helping new recruits learn the art of pistol handling and shooting. Got back into hunting after military retirement and have been bit with the handgun bug. My primary hunting gun is a S&W 629 with a 2x Leupold scope. It has treated me well and have bagged numerous deer and one bobcat.

Hello everyone, my name is Jeff and I'm from Whitetail heaven, better known as Iowa. Been hunting for most of my 43 years, mostly with bow but also with muzzloader and handgun. I've always enjoyed challenges and killing a mature buck with a revolver has been a goal I've wanted attain. Over the last few years at different times I owned two Taurus 44 Mag Raging Bulls, both of which I regrettably traded. I really enjoyed shooting them and was confident I could put a buck down but the right opportunity never happened. Recently, I've recommited myself to this pursuit and brought home a S&W 460 XVR. I'm trying seriously to get very comforatable with this gun and I've got a whole summer to do it. Shooting iron sights right now but haven't ruled out optics. Haven't used anything other than the Hornaday 200gr SST yet. In my spare time I'm an official measurer for P&Y and B&C. Hoping to use this site to learn all I can about my new best friend! Looks good so far, I'm really impressed with the postings I've read so far. Thanks in advance for any help anyone lends me!

Howdy, I'm Dave from Columbus, Nebraska. I enjoy my T/C Contenders and any gun chambered in 35 caliber. So far I haven't harvested any big game animals with my T/C pistols but I hope this fall will be the turning point. I hunted last fall with my 357 Maximum but didn't get an opportunity to shoot a deer with it. I wanted my kids to get theirs first. Ended up filling my two doe tags during black powder season.

This fall I will be hunting in the Sand Hills region of the state for Mule deer. I hope all my practicing with my new 357 Herrett pays off. I really like this cartridge. Recoil is a pussy cat compared to my 357 Maximum. If I'm lucky enough to get a shot under 200 yards I should be successful.

I just want to thank everyone on this forum for there experiences and knowledge. I learn something new every time I log on.

Hey all; May name is Dave and I hail from Rose Hill, Kansas. I have been married 31 years have 2 kids and 2 grand kids. I am a farm kid from way back and come originally from Nortwest Kansas. Years ago I did machine shop work and electrical work to put me and my wife thru school. Graduating with an Engineering degree I ended up at the Boeing plant in Wichita, Kansas. Been doin' that for the past 24 years.

I've enjoyed hunting, shooting and reloading ever since I could remember. My first big game handgun kill was a Mule deer feeding on a very tall very long heystack that I conviently pearched upon. It was an old 3 screw .44 Mag 5 1/2' if I recall correctly(some jerk liberated it from me) That began my deep interest in handgun hunting, and I watched the progressions of Bob Milek for many years, which really set the hook - so to speak.

I've got a bad habit lately of buying Mausers and Ruger Single actions that have had some hard mileage on them and reworking them. I've got 3 '96 Swed's in 6.5x55 a Turk in .35 Whelen and another Turk currently waiting on what is is going to become.

My favorite Contenders are the old frame with a 10" .357 Herret, a 12" Hunter in .375 Win and a custom 15 1/2" in 7x30 Wat. Single action revolvers are all Ruger Single actions (3 of which were bascket cases when I bought them) and 1 BFR in .22 Hornet converted to Bisley. 2 of the Rugers are .22 Mag, 1 is a .22 Lr, 1 is a 30 Carbine, a .41 Mag, a .356 GNR and a .429 GNR.

I just like messin' arond with guns, cartridges and going hunting.

Dave

I am Dave from Winter Springs, Florida. Have hunted all my life and have carried various handguns for years while on foot, on boat, on airboat, etc. I got interested in deer hunting with a handgun in 2002, bought a new 14" TC Contender 7x30, and have really enjoyed it.

Curt from Illinois. Got the Contender bug about 30 years ago, when I was a teenager and shot a 10" octagon barrel 30-30 (ouch!)...but didn't buy one until about 15 years ago. That first 223 has taken a few fox and other vermin; added a 7-30 Waters barrel a couple of years later; then in 2006 I had a custom 18", 405 Win barrel made for it (for Illinois deer hunting), and took 2 deer at 150-some yards last fall. This winter I added a SS G2 frame to carry the "big medicine" barrel.
Over the last two years or so, I got my daughter started with 22, then 410, and (she's now 12) last week a Savage 243...we're looking forward to a jackrabbit hunt next month, to be followed by deer and antelope later.

Just hang on tight with both hands...and use a very good scope. The muzzle brake is essential, at least for me. Hard a hard time early on with my bipod, pulled the sling screw right through the rynite stock (now I moved to a barrel-clamped mount for my bipod, but haven't tested that much yet for accuracy impact).
I don't reload, but had some 235 gr Hawk bullets loaded up, and feel very confident out to 200+ yards without much drop...and of course the energy is phenomenal way beyond that range, so long as you can place the bullet.
Someday I hope to take that barrel to Africa and shoot something REALLY big. My whole purpose with the 405 was to have a straight-walled cartridge that would work in the Contender and reach deer as far as possible across the cornfield (Illinois restrictions on cartridge style).
