Hello my I'm Lowe from Kenutcky I started hunting when I was 4 and just started handgun hunting last fall. I don't like hunting from a tree stand and started noticeing most of my shots on deer were mostly under a 100 yards and I liked geting close. Long guns are harder to carry in appalachian foothill brush so i switched to a rugerblack hawk 357 for half the season. The other half of the season is still for the .06 and muzzleloader.

Welcome aboard. This is a great site to learn about handgun hunting. Everyone is will to answer any questions you might have. Remember the only dumb question is the one that wasn't asked. We all asked what seem like dumb questions, we may get a chuckle out of them, but they will get answered. We have all been where you are. A beginner! Again Welcome to the site. Rupe

I'm Doug, but go by tred1956. Haven't hunted much in the last 15 years. I do love to shoot single shot pistols. I own a couple of xp 100's and several contender barrels. I bought my first contender in 1978 and have been hooked ever since. Between myself and my two sons I think we have about 40 barrels. Love wildcat cartridges and am trying to get grandson interested. I am an EMT by trade and have lived my entire life in South Carolina.

Enjoy life but, remember we are only practicing for something better.

Hello Tred,

Welcome to the site. Sounds like you and I got into it about the same time. My first was a Contender 10" 44 Mag. I've been hooked ever since.

My name is Trace. I'm old and can't remember when I started hunting with handguns. Lived all my life in south Texas. Killed my first handgun deer with a ruger Super Blackhawk close to 40 years ago. Moved up to TC later and have just now gotten into the bolt handgun game. Always ready to learn new things about the game.

Well, my name is Jeff, and I am the Switchman. Ive been seriously intrigued by the prospect of handgun hunting for about the last 6 years. However I have not actually been hunting yet. Particularly for financial reasons. Had a flying career bottom out on me in its early stages, and am now working overseas as Telecommunications contractor.

My main hunting priority - is Elk. Ever since I had Elk-steak & eggs for breakfast in Boise about 8 years ago. Since then, that bull has been haunting me in the middle of the night, Bugling in the back of my mind.

I Have owned an Encore in .44Mag, and .410 shot. A contender super 14 in .223, a Taurus Raging Bull .454, Super Blackhawk .44Mag, as well as a couple other revolvers in non-hunting chamberings.

In the meantime Ive spent the last 6 years or so doing the closest thing to hunting I could find that was nearly free. Reading and Learning. Im pretty sure when the finances recover, I'll be ready for hunting, handloading, and wildcatting.

Thanks a million for the creation of a fantastic website. Its been a long time coming.

This is the greatest website ever! You guys are right behind it!! Long time Member, married forever, hunting with handguns longer, work for big-Pharma, 'nuff money, not 'nuff time, Love the SWPA shoot when I can make it. Ride my Road King everywhere, drive my 2500HD when it rains. Favorite guns are my S&W collection, TC Contender and Encore collections,my Stryker and my M1 Garands; my Enfields and Springfields aren't bad either. I love to hunt geese and ducks when I can't get to the ranges. Then there's fishing......

Hunting you ask? I love back-pack and horse-pack Elk, Deer, Pigs, Turkey, and DanB water-bottles-all taken with handguns-one can't have enough outdoor activities you know.

Hello, my name is David. In the Houston area. Found the website while researching for the BFR 480. I like all the info and the specialty of handgun hunting, so I registered today. Bird hunted through my 20's as I grew a good collection of 'self defense handguns'. At 30 I bought a T/C .44. Took my first deer at 31 and have just kept going. In the last 2 years I have been making up for lost time. 2 deer, 3 hogs, 1 javelina w/ the .44. I have on order its replacement a S&W 629 stealth hunter performance center, only been waiting 6 months and they tell me it will be another 2. Thanks for the website and the info.

Wanted to properly introduce myself here. My name is Jon from Kalispell, MT and I have only handgun hunted one time before and really enjoyed it, but never followed through with keeping on top of it. I have been a bowhunter and rifle hunter for some time, but because of a left shoulder injury, bowhunting is or will be a thing of the past.

I have loved Big Bore rifles like the ol 45-70 and enjoy shooting the Marlin Guide Gun, but after purchasing my new found Ruger SBH in .44 Magnum, I believe I have found a new love and find myself looking at a longer barreled handgun for properly scoping and hunting with.

Gary you got a great site here, and I hope I can learn alot from all you very experienced handgun hunters, as well as I hope I can add some things as well.

I look forward to much good reading here, because you just can't find any good magazines out there that just deal with "Handgun Hunting" nor can I find any DVD's with just "Handgun Hunting" on them.

Well as you can see I like to talk alot, wait a minute I mean write alot too.

You all have a good one!

Welcome aboard Jon, this is a great site isn't it? I have been hunting most of my life as well and have been hunting with the handgun for approx. 10 years and just about the time I thought I knew everything, I then ran across this site. I then realized I didn't. LOL
Again welcome to the site. rupe

We just love it here, and thank God we moved here back in 1990 from making our escape as I call it from the left coast. I can't wait for this years hunting season to begin. I have a bullet that my bullet sponsor just gave me to work my loads up with and use which is a 305-gr WFN GC and I know this is gonna be a fun one to play with.

My name is Wayne I live just north of New Orleans LA "The Big Easy" I have been Handgun Hunting since the early 80's. I started with a Super 14 Contender in 30-30 with a 4X Leupold and I was hooked after I killed my first deer. I went to college at the University of Alabama so I had a lot of time to test the Contender on the west Alabama deer. After college I moved into wheel guns and other long guns but my main focus was on handguns and handguns that had long range power. I have had several XP's and at one time I had over 15 T/C barrels and 3 frames but sold all of it and moved more to the wheel gun side. As of late I have purchased 2 Contenders and a Encore so I am moving back to the dark side somewhat. Down here in LA we have hogs everywhere and most of the deer hunters will let you shoot all you want so I find myself hunting hogs more than deer down here. Somewhat of a change from my AL days. I am an engineer in my day job and build some pretty cool stuff. Check it out

If you get down here to the LA area Look me and TCMAN up we will go make some smoke!!!

Hi to all of you, many of you will remember me from a few years ago as the aussie handgunner hunter, over the past few years I've had virtually no time to myself or hunting due to work and fighting our gun laws. Things are now getting back on track down here in general so I've started buying again and in the past year have added a couple more TCs to the collection, several SSK barrels and a few Rugers to try out for SASS matches. Now comes the "terrible" job of working out loads for each, especially my 50/70 and 375JDJs with the aim of taking a Elk next February.
Take care and hope to keep in touch. Regards Dave.
