I have read that the G-2 frame is stronger then the older Contender frames, but have not seen how much. Has anyone seen a number of psi or anything? Or is this just somekind of statement.
If anyone knows, please enlighten me. Thank you.

They are stronger but I don't think T/C or anyone else has or would release specific numbers if they have them. The top of the frame has a section which is considerably thicker than the old frames which helps in stopping frame stretch from hot loads in standard contender rounds. I personally prefer the old frames but I bought a G2 specifically for my 375JDJ barrel.

ditto to rod. the G2 is not rated for anything more cartridge wise than the original contender. but....those gussets along the top corners of the frame are sure not there for looks. they are to add strength.
the G2 is one sweet piece of machinery imo.

This is just an FYI for those who have not run into this problem with the new G2 frame as of yet. Thompson claims that the new G2 will accept all contender barrels. Unfortunately, this does not include the older SUPER 14 barrels. I have a 35rem barrel that would not lock into the new frame. After several calls to Thompson, I was told that "all contender barrels fit" was not the case. I had it modified free of chanrge after a lengthy conversation with their support staff. However they initially wanted to charge $60 for the modification. This is in no way meant to be a shot at Thompson Center. They manufacture top rate firearms. It is only a warning for those of you who have purchased the new G2 frame.

I have always wondered why T/Cs 375JDJ barrel is always listed for use with the G2. I think it was to sell more frames. I agree that the G2 is stronger, but the 375JDJ was developed and shot for years in the older style frames. I think I remember reading that JD Jones tested all of the various Contender rounds he develped on the same frame, proving that the pressures of the rounds could be handled by the Contender.

the 375 will shoot on the old frame because that's what I was using but the load I have is exceding expectations, I'm using data for the 270gr Hornady and I'm getting 2100fps with 260gr Accubonds. I don't show any signs of high pressure but I figured better safe than sorry, plus it was a good excuse to give the wife on why I needed another frame, now the 7GNR and 375JDJ are always ready to go.

I've noticed on Bullberrys website, the page for Contender barrels they list the 6.5 Grendel as for the G-2 only.
